Since the Indian military is building up and modernizing rapidly, the P-8 MMA would complement well what they already have or have on order. It would be a very valuable asset in India's stature as a rising regional power, and be very useful in preserving stability in that part of the world. And with a lot of business already concluded successfully there, the Indian Navy is in a good position to get a great deal from Boeing.

Update:
Boeing came up with a P-8A MMA trailer demonstrator to marshall support for the project in the US. Maybe they should take it to India to raise interest in their product? From the looks of it, Boeing had a lukewarm reception. http://www.boeing.com/news/releases/2006/q3/060705b_pr.html
What's the status of Boeing's application for an export license?

China
That can sum up why this is important for India. The Chinese are working on operating a better sub force and the Indians want a good anti-sub capability.

The Indians have a Navy?
Hahaha - just kidding! The P-8A looks ideal for the Indian Navy, so long as they can get access to all the high tech goodies on it.
