Here are some pictures I got from the gas station in Aurora, Oregon Sunday on the way to the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland. I was blown away when I first saw the B-17 and B-24 flying around, I didnt know why they were in Aurora until I got home and went on the Collings Fondation sight.
Anyways... Here are the pictures that I got of the B-17, never got any of the B-24 as it was landing right as we saw it.
Also one more things, I saw 1 or 2 other aircraft, smaller aircraft, doing barrell rolls, and doing very fast passes, flying next to the bombers, were those WWII fighters?

Yes, I know they are bad quality.

Believe me, it looked a lot closer in person.

I use to live up in PDX (2000-2003) and yes I still kick myself. If you ever have the chance to get on one of those planes you will thank yourself. I did a B-17 flight in Dallas (Addison Airport) in April 1999. I think it was $350 then? It didn't matter what it cost to me, this was the coolest flight possible. I know what you mean on the plane was closer than the pic. I've got a few of those I try to explain to people that it was really closer. Thanks for the pics.

Steve

Great pics. She looks great in the air, where the B-17s belong.

When I flew this plane 1999 the Collings Foundation basically said this plane was on the road almost year round. The closest thing to a home base back then was HQ in New England (Mass or Conn?) The did all of the maint. while on the national tour.

Home for the Collings B-17 is in Stowe, MA which I think is about 25 miles NW of Boston. The YAF B-17 flew low over the house 5-6 times yesterday afternoon. I think it was doing some fly bys for something they were doing at The Henry Ford Museum.

I've always wanted to ride on a B-17. I have a picture of me when I was little standing in front of Nine-O-Nine.

$425 for a 1/2 hour is a little steep for me. But I understand why, and if I ever had the extra cash I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Both the B-17(909) and their B-24 do their annual maintanance right down the road from me in New Smyrna Beach(EVB) every winter, and I feel lucky to be able to see them so easily for so long.
