I would like to know if you was in the USAF and you was told you could only be part of a tanker crew. Which tanker would you pick, I have talk to a KC-10 pilot and boom operator at the Blue Angles Homecoming 2005, and they say they was blessed because they have less work to do and a bigger more modern plane. I also talk to a pilot and a boom operator on a KC-135. The pilot loved his plane but the boom operator wanted to go to a KC-10. I been told that a KC-135E is loud inside were a KC-135R is a lot quieter in side, also a KC-10 is a lot quieter inside. Also if a KC-10 crew wants to get back early, they because they have trust reverser they can on a half full load were in a KC-135 unless you in a E you can forget leaving early if there's light military traffic.

Quoting Moose135 (Reply 2): Flew the old KC-135A classic, loved that old gal!
Gotta love those heavyweight water-burner/steam jet takeoffs on a hot day.

Having been a boom on both jets, I'm torn. I prefer the KC-10 but I hate the mission. I miss the old SAC days in the KC-135A

Yeah, the old steam jets (J-57s), those were the days when you saw both ends of the runway, while still on the ground.

If only power was proportional to noise....
LOL, the KC-135A could have been a screamer, in noise and power, LOL.
