One quick question before I leave for work....A C-130 did 6-10 circuits at our municipal airport today with the ramp open, and I witnessed it dropping at least 1 object. It did not appear to be a parachutist or streamer. Then the a/c landed, back tracked on the runway, opened the ramp, and shut down. About 5 minutes later, the airport truck backed up and a number of parcels were tossed into the Lockheed. The Herc then departed. Just wondered what the C-130 was dropping. (wind was 15+ knots at about 30 degrees off centerline)

Reminds me of my favorite C-130 story.
we were on an Alpat donut hole patrol, keeping the US waters of the Bering free from foreign f/v's.
We had a C-130 from Kodiak A/S working with us, staged out of NAS Adak. As they were departing on this one Saturday afternoon, the pilot called and asked if there was anything else they could do for us. I responded "well, when you come out tomorrow morning, a sunday paper and some cheeseburgers would be nice."
Next morning here they come, low on the horizon, radioing us to stand by for a delivery. Coming up from astern, they dropped a package that nearly hit square on the fantail. Opening it up, there were 6 cheeseburgers - still warm - and the Sunday Anchorage Daily News.

Dummy drops? The 82nd Airborne?
My only C-130 story.
We were steaming 150 miles off the coast of North Carolina just tooling around with nothing better to do. all of a sudden(yes the combat guys were asleep) a coastie herc over flys us at about 100 feet, scared the shit out of the bridge crew. The pilot comes on the radio asking us if we were looking for the distress beacon also. Distress beacon? I get paged to go to the radio room and sure enough one of our radios is stuck in transmit on 121.5. Needless to say we told him we didnt hear it. The CO was pissed. But its nice to know the system works.
