Found this on the USAF web site this morning:

First Pacific F-22 rolls out

Lockheed Martin rolls out the first combat-capable F-22 Raptor stealth fighter destined for operations in the Pacific Theater. It will be assigned to Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska. The F-22 dominates any adversary through unmatched performance achieved through stealth, supercruise speed, agility, precision and a complete view of the battlespace achieved with the advanced sensor suite embedded in the aircraft.

It hasn't been determined that Hickam will get F-22s. The Air Force wants them here, but nothing finalized yet.

Thats cool, but remember the USAF SAC, two legs of the nuclear triad, and "Peace is Our Profession" slogan?

That was a sick joke, our job was to vaporize places that National Command Authority deemed worth vaporizing.

We preferred "Delivered in 45 minutes or less, or the second one is free".

"I'm excited about getting this incredible new air dominance capability into the Pacific. F-22As based in Alaska in the near-term and Hawaii in the mid-term demonstrates the tremendous American commitment to the region by assuring security and stability for our nation, as well as for our friends and allies," said PACAF commander General Paul V. Hester. In the future, the aircraft will also be assigned to Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. The 199th Fighter Squadron of the Hawaii Air National Guard will fly the F-22 and the 531st Fighter Squadron will be an Active associate squadron to them.

From an August 3, 2006, USAF press release,.

I apologize Ha763, I thought it was certain they were getting them. My old cohorts at the HIANG seemed to be under that impression. Of course, we had been promised F-15 C's and D's to replace our old Mai Tai A's and B's for years, so I hope you can understand my rush to that conclusion.  Smile

HIANG really DOES need replacements for those old planes though. They were finding all kinds of cracks it seemed like a few years ago on a few of those jets.

Thanks Vzlet for the info! Now one question... is the article suggesting that the 199th will share the 22's with an active squadron or will the 531st get their own?

You would, wouldn't you?

It's just a play on the term "theatre"...which is how the US Military has divided up areas were it operates. Not I said operates, not "dominates, owns, runs, etc" or any other arrogant terms.

I'm sure more familiar with milspeak can add more.

It would be if a decision or outcome was already decided. I suppose it would be arguable if F-22 played a good performance, it would depend on competing roles.  Wink

You can't blame them for bragging a wee bit. If I was flying a RAFALE or a TYPHOON (or any of that Sukhoi junk) I would stay on the ground whenever an F22 was flying around.

its just you... I find it funny coming a Frenchman to make a comment about being arrogant........ nothing personal, but just ask anyone anywhere if they think the French are arrogant and 9 times out of 10 their answer will be yes.

The F22 is a magnificent aircraft... any country that had them would have some entitlement to making jokes like "coming soon to a theater near you" especially since that slogan was made up in the US to start with.

Oh yeah, I see. You are from that crowd which decide who has the right to express his opinions or not, based on his nationality.

Well you were the one who said you found the comment to be arrogant and I was simply stating that the world considers the French to be arrogant, so whilst you are free to express your opinions, you will have a hard time convincing people that they are valid opinions based on how quickly you made a negative comment about something to which your nation is perceived to be.  Wink
