I was looking on Joe Baugher's page for 2003 USAF reg's, and saw the first on the list is a Rutan LongEZ.
Reg: 03-0001 c/n: 1186 "Testbed for pulse detonation engine"
Sorry if this was already posted... anyone have any info on this?

Many pundits believe that the USAF's supposedly current hypersonic reconnaissance platform (a.k.a. "Aurora") uses PDW engines and these engines explain the "donuts on a rope" contrails seen over the Western US from time to time.

Ya. I remember seeing an article in Aviation Week about that... But for some reason, I can't quite see a LongEZ as a hypersonic aircraft. haha

Quoting Spacepope (Reply 3): I'm in the west, saw the donuts on a rope contrail yesterday...
From a WN 737...
That's what the Air Force wanted you to think it was.

I too have seen the donuts on a rope phenominon down here in Florida... and it was clearly being made by an airliner though I forget now which type.
