I mean from what kind of aircraft. It's apparently an aerial shot, no?

Nice detailed shot of the enlarged spine - are the kits inside similar to the ISAF Sufa?

What is exactly the aerodynamic effect of the conformal tanks? I can't imagine it improves anything except the range

I think improving the range is the whole idea: more fuel and less drag than drop tanks mounted on a hardpoint.

Polish F-16s make emergency landing due to avionics malfunction

Quote:
"October 2, 2007 (by Lieven Dewitte) - Two F-16 jet fighters stationed at Krzesiny airport in western Poland, were forced to make an emergency landing, due to avionics malfunctions. Both aircraft managed to land safely thanks to the skills of the experienced pilots and a good dose of luck.

Since the Polish air force began operating the F-16s in December last year, dozens of faults and defects have been detected in the fighter planes' equipment. All repair costs are to the account of the Polish military, as the government failed to include waranty clauses in the purchase agreement.

The defence ministry recently ordered spare parts for the F-16 for a total amount of 123 million USD, which should at least satisfy demands until 2010. The list of problems with the Polish F-16 also includes a lack of a comprehensive IT system. Currently, all of the flight details, including fuel consumption, are recorded in an Excel spreadsheet."

A new batch of four a/c was delivered comprising 3 x F-16Cs and 1 x F-16D. Perhaps the thread starter was on site to take pictures when those landed at Krzesiny?  Smile .....

Report with pictures released by the Polish MoD and LockMart to Flightglobal......

http://www.flightglobal.com/articles...lockheed-martin-f-16-fighters.html

Quote:
"The Polish air force received a further batch of four Lockheed Martin F-16 fighters at Krzesiny air base on 22 November (pictured below), taking its inventory of the type to 21 single-seat Cs and 10 two-seat Ds from an eventual fleet of 48.

Poland's F-16s have so far been assigned to the Krzesiny-based 3 and 6 tactical air squadrons, with deliveries to its 10 Sqn to begin late this year, ahead of the unit's relocation to Lask air base in mid-2008. The squadrons will be responsible for operational conversion unit and attack; fighter/attack; and fighter/reconnaissance tasks respectively."
