With reference to previous threads on the subject:
Saudi Arabia Buys 2 A330-MRTTs (by LHStarAlliance Feb 12 2007 in Military Aviation & Space Flight)
it is actually 3 A330-MRTT which were formally purchased today by the Saudi Arabian AF, one more than anticipated.

With oil trading at $100 per barrel they probably thought 'What the heck, throw in another one.'

If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the outcome of a hundred battles.

Excellent, now they can attack our cities without land bases. It is important for the Saudis to project their air-power... wait... no, no, no..

Not sure I understand your point. The RSAF already operates 8 KE-3 tankers, so this is hardly a new capability for them.

Why on earth would the RSAF want to attack your Cities?

The fact that there is any kind of friendly state protecting the worlds current largest oil reserve should if anything let you sleep a little easier!

As Scbriml states its only extending their current capability.

Besides refueling those F 15's all the way to the US would be a big undertaking..........  cheeky

In a new development last year, RSAF Tornado IDS aircraft deployed for training with RAF Tornados, in the UK.
So in future, presumably they'll have better means to self deploy in this manner, for operational use though, like with the KE-3's they already operate, the main task will be to extend combat air patrols, which have to cover a large area.
