I see that no one has replied, so I'll take a shot at it...

Could it have something to do with the rescue winch of the helicopter? Or maybe it controls the movement of the FLIR camera/spotlight?

I would go with the flir control. The winch would be controlled by crew in the back. The FLIR we have on our helicopters has a different control, but...If it is flir which screen do they use to watch it? Does it come up on the cockpit CRT?
