This is old news from 2/2007, and probably just newsworthy because the contract of the announcement
from last year has now been confirmed and signed. UAE Air Force Chooses A330 Mrtt (by Nohag Feb 20 2007 in Military Aviation & Space Flight)

Quoting Breiz (Thread starter): A timed press release before the USAF decision?
Quoting PanAmerican (Reply 1): I don't think this has anything to do with the USAF decision at all...
there is no other explanation for this announcement today - this "order" is now a year old yet "par hazard" it is signed today the same day the USAF meets to decide on the tanker deal?

You mean an EADS publicity stunt so they get at least some positive news out there once it might be announced they'll lose the USAF contract? Hmm, considering the UAE order is actually a year old, I guess that could make sense.
But I was more trying to say that the UAE Air Force order has nothing to do with the USAF order. Now the press release on the hand, that is a different story...
So my bad, you guys could be right about that

I'm just kind of wondering why the UAE feels it needs an MRTT....are they considering out of area ops ? Or just the possibility of loitering over Iran sometime soon ? Of course, maybe I'm missing something obvious, or maybe the sheikhs want more shiny new toys.

I think this is just coincidental timing. As the A-330MRTT proposal to the USAF is formally from NG, not EADS.
