I understand that a whole flock of TN KC-135s are sitting, snow-covered, up here at Pease in New Hampshire. Pease has its own batch of KC-135Rs as part of the 157th, so are these boneyard-bound planes? Is Pease the only base that has real-estate for these birds before they take their last flights? I think the observer said that these are mostly TN aircraft, and maybe a KS one in there as well.
It seems rather strange to fly them up to New England if their final resting spots will be out in the southwestern desert.

The Air Force is removing the KC-135Es from flying duty but Congress will not allow them to be retired, they are parking KC-135Es and running the engines and changing tires.
I'm not sure if this is what they are doing at Pease but if they are E models I can gurantee you that they are in storage there, Congress will not allow the E models to go to the Boneyards and the Air Force is not flying them no more nor do they want them clogging up ramps at active bases.
Pease post BRAC has a ton of ramp space, so it would make a great place to park E models.

Hi all,
I think the term is called "Flyable Storage". There were some -135E's stored at McGhee Tyson ANGB but I' haven't been out there in a while so I'm not sure if they are still there. (I'm retired from the Tennessee Air National Guard.)

I think this is exactly what's going on here. They are E models...at least a dozen up here, in addition to the Rs that the 157th flies. The person flew into and out of PSM yesterday and saw them all snow-covered. It would make a pretty cool photo, if someone could get close enough to do it justice.

Yes, perhaps someone from the NHANG can post a picture? Do we know what units these KC-135Es came from? NJANG? MEANG?
Is Congress funding the storage at PSM? What contractor is taking care of these birds, or is the NHANG doing it?

Yes, the person who flew through Pease the other day said a whole bunch of Tennessee and at least one Kansas...at least a dozen in all.

I'll never forget the night back in 1995-96 we saw an "Elephant Walk' out of PSM. Very cool. It was back when Sadam massed all those troops back on the Kuwait border...... the funny part, some of the locals made a big stink out of it wanting to know why they had to do that....!!!! "Hey dumb @##... you watch the news...???"

Anyone heard anything about a Pan Am Clipper/Boston-Maine 727 losing a fan blade and hitting a 135 at PSM? I read about it on another forum but haven't been able to find any info.

This is the first I have heard about that incident. Any more details?

I have nothing good to say about the present incarnation of Pan Am...run by a bunch of huckster railroad guys. The once-proud Pan Am logo is seen on more railroad boxcars than aircraft. I think they've lost their certification to fly, thanks to the corners they've cut.
