Hello everyone!
The following is my translation from a russian book which is called "Modern Interceptors" Please read it and tell me what you think about it!
"In August 1992 a group of Russian Air Force Su-27s have made a friendly visit to a USAF air base Lengly (not sure how to spell it). During that visit a proposition was made to the American side to have a demonstration dogfight between Su-27 and F-15 over the air base, which was readily declined by the USAF officials!
However, not long after the visit, USAF decided to go on with such dogfight, but only if it was carried out over the international waters!
The flight involved one Su-27UB, one F-15D and one F-15C.
Su-27 had met the chalange and triumpthed!
F-15D was not able to complete it's task which involved losing Su-27 which was on it's tail: using only minimum afterburners and maximum non-afterburning thrust Russian fighter without much deal was always behind F-15D, engines of which were set to full afterburning thrust!
During this chase Su-27's AOA never exceed 18 degrees. At the same time Su-27 faced with the same task easily lost F-15C and was soon on it's tail and not long after that F-15D became another target!
This episode never went into the Western press!"
Does anyone know if this is true? Personally I think it is!

Privet Wasilenko
As you are in Sydney, you may remember this. A few years ago a Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) pilot was the first "western" pilot to fly the Su-27, and a Russian Air Force pilot was allowed to fly one of our F-18s. I don't suppose you have a pic of this at all? It was on the front cover of the Australian Aviation magazine from that time.
As to the subject at hand, you took the words right out of my mouth in regards to the Su-27, as it regarded to be the best aircraft in the world in the role for which it was developed (including Janes).
So much so, that the Russians have offered the Su-27 and its derivatives to the RAAF and RNZAF for it's future fighter requirements.
I would not be surprised if this story as you have translated is true.

Yes, this is TRUE. I have also read about it. In fact when Cy-27 got the F-15 off its tail it attacked both F-15 and won.
I read it on a reliable site and it says when F-15 gets in a ... ne znau kak po angliiskii, nu voobshem kogda on v shtopor vhodit on ne moshet iz nego viiti...

Privet!
Thanks Aviatsiya and SU508!
I actually read that magazine not long ago! The Aussie pilot flew with Test Pilot Pugachov. He was really concerned about the fact that Su-27 has a 60s cockpit.
I doubt any Western Nation would buy a russian made aircraft! But who knows!

Very interesting. The "Modern ____" series is pretty reliable (I have its Modern Helicopters and Modern Bombers editions) so it probably was the way they said it was.

I never heard about this, BTW Spelling is Langley, but it would not surprise me, as the Su-27 series of a/c is far more maneuverable than pretty much any other combat aircraft...

Before moving to United States, my brother received a model of Su-27 as a goodbye gift. We assembled it the second day we were in US. I read that article there.
Makes me proud!
