The 2002 Leamington "Airshow", which was mainly/totally to consist of a Snowbirds performance was scheduled to take place over the shore of Lake Erie in the South-Western Ontario town of Leamington (about 20 km SE of YQG) on Victoria Day (May 20th). But thanks to the efforts of OBL & Co., the show was cancelled due to the town being unable to afford the insurance costs.
However, Leamington residents were in for a surprise yesterday, as the RCAF aerobatic team just happened to "practice" in the exact same time, date, and location of the cancelled airshow. The appearance was un-announced, however, due to legal reasons. The team also visited Windsor airport (YQG) prior to the show (if I knew they'd be here, I would have gone, of course). That was mighty nice of the Snowbirds, too bad it couldn't work with those cancelled airshows that were to take place in actual airports.
