Between December 8th 2008 and February 14th 2009, portions of the Modern Flight Hangar (MFH) at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force will be closed for painting of the ceiling.
This gallery is dedicated to the Korean and Southeast Asian conflicts and access to the Kettering Cold War Gallery and the Space and Missile Gallery through the MFH will not be restricted.
Check the Museum's web site as to which portion of the MFH is closed prior to visiting.

Will they be keeping the current ceiling color or painting it darker like the other galleries?

I asked that of one of the volunteers when I was there on Monday. She said it'll be dark like the others. It allows for more dramatic scene lighting, better photos (less background clutter) and most importantly, lower electricity costs.

Does the NMAF have any idea when they will get a KC-135A and put it on display? They should put it in either the Cold War or the Mordern Flight Galleries.

Even with the 135 variants on display, the A model would be a nice addition since it was the dominant tanker type for so many years.

Yes, I agree F4wso. If they need a Boom Operator to fill out a crew to fly a KC-135A from DM to WP, I'll volunteer.  bigthumbsup

Here is an update on the partial closing of the Modern Flight Gallery.

The section of the gallery that contains the aircraft and exhibits relating to the Korean conflict is blocked off. There is a strong paint odor in the gallery and in the hallway leading to the gallery. So if you are allergic to paint odors, I would recommend not going into that area of the museum.

If I read the list right, the YF-23A is out of restoration and now on display. Can anyone confirm that?

Confirmed. As of my last visit on 11/11/2008, it's in the annex with the X-planes and research aircraft.
