I see them in my spam folder every now and then. Usually from banks I don't have accounts at.

Phishing ...

I get those letters twice a week. Always written in crappy German, often claiming to write on behalf of Deutsche Bank, though I'm not even a member. My anti virus software warns me and so does my e-mail client. The newspapers are full of reports on phishing, but apparently there are still plenty of people falling for it.

I also recieve those "make money fast" letters that are mere attempts of money laundry.

Phishing ...

Done all the time . . . .

And plenty of people respond. They prey on the scared and weak.

I don't reply to anything . . . . if my bank wants anything they'll call me, and I will call them back or go see them . . . none of this e-mail me blah, blah.

I constantly get AOL.COM crap . . . "yuor acount wil be closeed". Blind man could see that was bullshit.

Since I pay for my AOL a year at a time, I already know better . . .

Bank - same way . . . . ridiculous number of messages phishing for personal information.

I have had a few, a fake Barclays and Lloyds TSB and one from some US bank come to mind. I tend to visit the link and enter fake information just on the off chance they will try to use it and get caught out or something, if not it's still got their hopes up thinking someone has entered their bank details, only for it to fail Smile

Well, my favorite part of this is when I get phishing e-mails from banks with which I have never done business.  crazy  Some day I'm going to do one of those 419-eater thingies and have some fun.

All the time... I have that Yahoo! e-mail account I've created aeons ago for people I didn't want to give my "real" address to, it seems like that paid off. I get e-mails claiming to be from a bank, my bank, coincidentally, with nothing but the usual "g€t v 1 agg rhaa c4eep" bollocks in them. I also received numerous e-mails from another bank, where I also have an account, trying to phish my online banking login data - pity I don't do online banking with that account.  Wink And last but not least, there's that pile of e-mails supposedly sent by banks I've never had an account at... folks, nice try.

Thank you,

The sender's e-mail is - of course - spoofed. You'll send your mail to an unsuspecting victim.

Several, plus Ebay, none of whom I have an account with.

We get a couple a week from some clowns stating something like the "Africa Development Projects for Feed the World Do They Know It's Christmas Time Corportation" has elected us as their travel agents and could they please have 6 business class tickets routed Lagos - London - New York and here's a credit card number... and of course that old chestnut "I don't know you but my husband was Mr Goldfinger from Zimbabwe and he left $12 million, but I need your help to get it out..."

Mostly they are poorly written and 100% obvious, but once in a while they are very well done, so be careful out there guys.

JUst for the record, for those of you helping out with the project Logan22L and I are sort of wrangling, you can either call or email and get verification via facsimile or mail on a receipt. If there are any questions feel free to call me, I will return IMs or emails for a phone number.

Thanks.

I get loads of those, just remember banks never do anything like that. They don't ask you to push buttons in emails, and will ask you to either visit their site or telephone/visit a branch if they need to.

Same with PayPal.

got loads of them at my old job - the spam filter here seems much better so far.

As for the "we are Nigerian royalty and have a large sum of money to deposit, please give us your bank account details" scams, well I'm probably off to Nigeria in a few weeks for work so I thought I'd look these people up and suggest that instead of me giving them my account details it would be much quicker and simpler if they just handed me their cash and I'd pay it into my account when I got home. Great idea i reckon. How could they refuse  Wink

Guys,

For those who don't know, I work for Barclays Bank. I've just heard today about these e-mails going to customers. We NEVER e-mail customers these sort of e-mails. We would only ever e-mail you if you have registered for Online Banking, and we e-mail your membership number and details of how to log on. If anyone gets an e-mail, forweard it to internetsecurity@barclays.co.uk. Our fraud team are on the case with these at the moment. e-mails are not going to everyone, only a handful of customers.

I am also a customer but have not received one. If anyone has any queries about it, let me know and I''ll try to help you. The telephone number is our contact centre (where I work), but I haven't seen that address before.
