Simple question.

Have you ever broken or had broken a bone in your body.

I'll start.

-Small bone in the side of my foot, caused, when i slipped in Portugal, next to the pool in 1999.
-Hip Broken (surgery) 2005
-Thigh bone above knee (surgery) 2005

That's my list.

I've never broken a bone even though im stupid and used to jump off my mates roof, crashing my cycle into cars (moving and stationary) But a couple of weeks ago i thought i had broken my wrist but it was just some trapped nerve I managed this as i was riding my bike turnt the handle's to far, Bike stopped suddenly, i didnt and landed on my wrist and this hurt less than when i was standing on my bike doing no-handed fell foward, I was going quite fast, my hand got dragged into the wheel i grapped a spoke so the bike done a back wheelie. I forgot to let go of the wheel and dragged the bike thorugh the air somehow. How fun so no none for me as of yet!
Those are the closest ive been

I also broke a bone going UP stairs, completely sober. I was, however, going up them in total darkness (my own stairs, I thought I knew them). Tripped, reached out to break my fall, and somehow broke a metacarpal in my hand.

Also broke my leg playing lacrosse, but at least that wasn't an embarrassing excuse.

Some over the net, some from a private collection of previous cases. Of course, patient confidentiality is assured.

But I indeed like the forearm one. Do you want to see what we do with those? Needles and fixation (well, actually a similar fracture - Monteggia fracture)

Sometimes we use devices to support the limb while the fracture heals:

And much more. I just thought the topic could use some "imaging" for illustration.

Nose when I was 5, Dad playfully chasing me through the living room, socks on a waxed wood floor, slipped and went through the front window.
Collar bone when I was 10, fell off a garage roof.
Broken finger in high school from gym.
Broken jaw from falling on carrying handle of M16.
Broken foot in 2 places breaking off tree branch, dropped outside the drop zone. Then force marched 12 miles on it. Not a pretty sight when my boot was cut off.
Broken nose, rappelling out of UH1H and hit the brake way to early, got to eat some skid.
Broken ribs in helicopter crash.
Broken finger, actually cut off on pipe laying barge in gulf of mexico. Reattached and healed.
Broken nose fooling around with girlfriend, she had a hard head.
Broken toes, swept onto rock in high surf in Lake Erie.
More broken toes on sailboat deck hardware.
Broken finger, actually same finger cutoff again at UPS when extending rail unexpectedly retracted. Finger reattached and what a great doctor, hardly any scarring at all.

And those are just the broken bones, luckily we're not talking sprains or the page would be much longer.

Never broken a bone, but cracked my head open when I was 2. I slipped at a swimming pool, and my head hit the corner of a tiled shower 'tray' thing. I still have the staple in my head  Smile

Broken right index finger while playing softball in the fifth grade.

Broken left wrist riding my bike avoiding colliding with a car that pulled out suddenly from behind a building while in eleventh grade (the same summer I worked for PSA at ONT). Had to ride home five miles so my grandmother could take me to the doctor. My regular doctor wasn't in, so saw another one. At the same time, the other doctor found a congenital heart murmur that my regular doctor never picked up on. Went through a battery of test on that one, during which we saw a doctor that my dad was so impressed with that he switched to him in 1978, and he continued as his doctor until my dad passed away right before last Christmas.

I seem to manage at least one spectacular cycle crash each year - only once did it result in a breakage. Whilst out riding, a stick wedged itself in my back wheel, casing it to lock up and me to lose control at a fairly high speed - as bike and I changed posistion several times in a few seconds, my hand managed to get caught in the front wheel, it was spinning very fast, but stopped abruptly when the next spoke met my hand and jammed it up against the forks - broke a couple of bones in my wrist, not to mention severe bruising. That pi$$ed me off a lot, but I wasn't going to give up straight away, so rode a further 5-6 miles before I had to give up and go home because I could no longer change gear, except using my teeth.

Apart from that I have broken my toes a few times by doing stupid things like stubbing them on stones, and also broke one of my fingers, but I don't remember how I did that.

Most recent broken bones include...
Friday (yes last Friday)-Broke ankle and torn tendon while playing basketball.
2001-Broke left index finger so hard the bone was sticking out (no joke)
2000-First time snowboarding. Very hard surface. I slipped, put out my hand to brake the fall, and my wrist shattered (broke in 3 or 4 places).
Those are my three biggest. I hope this ankle heals.
Happy Flying!

Just a broken wrist when I was 10 or 11...literally the day after I finally learned how to ride a bike, was out for a spin in the neighborhood, took a sharp corner a little too fast, and went flying off the sidewalk and curb into the street...*CRACK*...after that I decided riding bikes wasnt really my thing and Ive pretty much stayed away from them ever since...

Two toes on each foot are permanently broken, as I stub them constantly, broke my ankle at school falling over the pommel horse, which then fell on me. Then last summer, in truly spectacular fashion, managed to break my foot and spend eight weeks in an air cast tripping over the toe thong on my flip-flops trying to get away from a big old Bermuda cockroach.  embarrassed

Just my nose... freshman yer in college. Passed out as i waled into the classroom, bounced my face against a wooden desk, and landed face down on a hard tile floor (im told this is how it happened, i was unconscince). Came to 5 minutes later with my face on the floor in a puddle of blood. Man, that hurt. That was over a year ago, and it still hurts in cold weather.

I never broke anything, but I did have some bad injuries.

When I was 3 or 4, I slipped on the wet floor of the toilet at Kindergarten and cracked my head open and passed out. My parents rushed me then to the hospital, where I got something like 4 or 6 stitches. To this day, I still have the scar from that fall.

When I was like 6 or 7, I was with my parents in an office building, I believe it was at the office of the Otto-Versand in Hamburg, and I got my hand stuck in one of these doors, that you push and walk through and they're like a carroussel (it's a bit difficult to explain what door it was). Luckily, my father managed to get me loose from the door and though it hurt, there was no damage done except the scare from the incident.

Then when I was at high school, I believe it was in 8th grade, I twisted my ankle. Nothing serious, but it hurt like hell. I was with a few people in the classroom in between a few tables with chairs on them, some of the chairs fell on me, and I slipped a bit and twisted it. I had my left ankle taped for 2 weeks.

Other than that, I just had the usual bruises and falls when I was a kid. Though strangely, when I was in grade school, we were supposed to write a trip report from our vacations and I made up that I did have a broken leg from one of my trips to Italy.

I broke my left collarbone in 2nd grade whilst horsing around in school. Well, thats why the teacher warned us not to horse around.  Wink

Crushed my left middle finger on a canoeing trip in high school (canoe swamped, squished finger trying to unwedge canoe from rocks).

During my military career, I've managed, on separate occasions, to break another seven fingers, mostly from having aircraft parts dropped on them. Bad luck, mostly (I wear gloves to lift heavy parts because my hands sweat easily, making them slippery).

Broke 3 ribs playing tag with my son (tripped in grass pothole I couldn't see). That one hurt. Since it occurred 3 days before a deployment to Saudi, I kept it quiet until about 2 weeks after I got there. Dumb move, but fortunately they were clean breaks. Sometimes, fortune favors the moronic  Smile

That's about it.
