Topic: F1: US Grand Prix Username: Nosedive Posted 2006-06-28 19:04:26 and read 1460 times. There was a thread about the USGP tracks a few weeks back, as well as Teds' absolute love for Tony George , but now it's race time!
Are the McLaren's back?
Will Ralf punt it into turn 13 again?
What about next yr? Will this be the last USGP for some yrs? Will the race move to LAS?
Will the "hometown hero" Scott (no)Speed score anypoints?
Seeing as how a huge chunk of the fans are foreign based, esp. from S. America, will World Cup play have some negative impacts on the crowds?
Who's on fresh engines this weekend?
All to play for! May Alonso have another turn 1 shunt and Kimi take it! Better yet, GO JPM!

Are they even bothering to turn up?
Its certainly going to be an interesting race, not least because of last years mess...

More important than that, will the Michelin tyres last more than 10 laps?

No
Yes.
No.
No.
Only if the Bridgestone Runners pull out. Even then there will be enough Michelin cars to keep him out of the points.

Michelin did the hard yards last year. FIFA will just hammer the final nail.
The team are. Kimi will be off playing in his new "singing bonus" and JPM will turn up on the sniff for a new contract, but fail to prove why.

Great day at the track today.... save that damn red car on pole. Some interesting articles in today's Indy Star newspaper. The newspaper, as I read it, are saying Kimi has to go to Ferrari?! The Indy Star also quoted one of the co-owners for STR's desire to have Scott Speed back for next yr. Hell, he's starting 13th! Go Speed! |
Topic: RE: F1: US Grand Prix Username: Legoguy Posted 2006-07-02 04:23:43 and read 1371 times.Damn it why didn't you start this thread earlier!?!?!?! With all the football and tennis on I never realised it was the US grandprix until I looked on ITV website and saw to my horror that Qualifying had already taken place!!! I didn't think it was on until next week! Doh!!!
Anyhow...
Those Ferraris are obviously going to take the top two podium steps unless Massa wants to try and over take Shumacher taking out both of them. Unless that happens, the main fight will be for the third step of the podium, and hopefully maybe for once, Barrichello will be up there...considering he got all that extra race experience last year when only he and 5 other guys took part in the US grandprix..and I was sad enough to watch the whole race
third time lucky maybe

Actually they were saying today that there was a great turn out so the US grand prix is still right up there! |

Probably will be Alanso, Schumi, Kimi podium finish. Of course the best would be a photo close finish by those three. I hope the race and attendance is good to so to keep it at Indy. |

It should be, if qualy was any indication of how this race weekend will be, then bring it on! Walking around the track today, a lot of people expressed my semtiment. "There seems to be a lot more people here this yr." Did you see Stand J around Turn 1 of the F1 course? Shitload of people right there. You wouldn't see anyone around a lot of the grandstands just past the S/F line, roped off for spectators for the day. Why? Got me!

Ferrari is kicking ass and taking names so far this weekend We'll see if FA has an ace up his sleeve. McLaren, COME ON AND GIVE US ALL SOME HOPE! And how 'bout homeboy Scott (foundsome)Speed?! Not too bad for a warmed over Minardi!

Ron Dennis has said that the McLarens are going to be heavy so expect them to pit late. I think the Ferrari's might be a bit lighter then the rest of the Michelin guys. |

Who could know that Bruce Springsteen were in to F1!?
I think Michelin screwed up (again) as they only brought 1 soft and 1 hard tire to this event.
I hope I will never have Montoya behind me cause if he drive just as bad in a normal car as in a F1.......go figure.

They looked full to me when I was there yest. Are you sure you're not talking about the "short-chute" b/w turns 1 & 2 of the oval- turns 12- 13? If you are, they don't sell those b/c those seats suck for the roadcourse. Attendance is expected to be around/over 130,000... more than last yr. The mood at the race was clear, keep the USGP!

- What does ESPN have to do with anything? News Corp has (had) the television rights to the USGP in the U.S.
- I was in Stand E and it was pretty full.
- I would agree, but you're talking about Bernie here! And Tony (George) has a lot on his plate the next few weeks (with the IRL and IMS changing back over to the oval for NASCAR coming to town). I REALLY hope F-1 returns to Indy. And I am one who believes The U.S. is big enough to have two Formula One races a year. Say, one at Vegas and one at Indy!
Quoting Senliture (Reply 26): Yes I am talking about those seats. But why are they bad for roadcourse? |
- They are bad for the road course. I sat there the first year and in Stand E ever since. Those stands between turns 12 and 13 all you can see are the cars coming on the main track and then into turn 13. You can not see the pits. The only good thing about those stands is that there is a jumbo-tron across the track.

Pretty much, but Tower Terrace, the seats on the right hand side of the USGP frontstrech after the start-finish line, have got to be worse. You see the cars when they rejoin the Indy500 pit road and for about 3 seconds on front strait. The best seats for the USGP are in Stand J; you can see, provided you sit closer to turn 4 of the oval, Turn 13, the front strait (save for about the final 3 seconds, as the cars get obscured by the fencing) and 1st half dozen turns. Plus there's a jumbotron at that location. Paddock Penthouse seats aren't too bad, as you have the standing start and the pits in front of you.

So the recommended stand is J...are the tickets allocated seating or is it a free for all?

A giant TV screen that usually shows the live feed at a sporting event. You know, the thing that shows you the replay JPM and Kimi bumping into one another
Quoting BA757 (Reply 29): So the recommended stand is J...are the tickets allocated seating or is it a free for all? |
Allocated on race day only. On Fri and Sat I sat in J, up high around section 27. Sunday I sat in Paddock Penthouse. Bring a shitload of water b/c those uncovered seats in stand J get hot! Paddock Penthouse is covered, however. Also recommended is a scanner with headphones, as you can listen to SpeedTV's, ITV's BBC's, etc race coverage as well as the communication b/w drivers and teams. Seats for Stand J run about $110 for race day and Paddock Penthouse seats, usually the most expensive seats, are $150. A Friday/Saturday pass, general admission...sit where you want, is $25. For the support events on Friday and Saturday, I'd put that general admission pass to work and scope out the seats by Turn 8 and by the "Mickey Mouse" corners. Also, if you want cheaper merch, always go outside to the track vendors on Georgetown Rd or Crawfordsville Rd. Always some cool shit out there, including the 1st DVDs of Grand Prix

- They are large ( AND I MEAN VERY LARGE ) television screens that show the action on the track. Probably 10 feet by 10 feet in size, if not larger

- If the FIA puts Indy on the schedule for 2007, you have to order your tickets through the IMS ticket office

- As said, it is cheaper to buy from either the box office or from someone off the street during the weekend. Also, checkout their website to see what stands are where. IMS is huge.
- If I was to upgrade, I would have to get out my "SPF7000" sunscreen!
