So here I am again, whining about the built-in USB hub in my computer. It fails anywhere from zero to twenty times an hour (yes, 20) no matter if I'm using it or not. Big deal, I could say, but my WiFi adapter is connected to it... which I NEED for going online!

I've done everything I can to try and set that thing right, installed all new and approved drivers I could find, I've checked for bad contacts and I've tweaked every system setting that might have to do with it. But still, I'm screwed if I have a large download with no resume support.

So please, never ever, under any circumstances EVER buy a PC made by Medion! They may cost little money, they may be relatively fast and equipped with a lot of stuff. But all of that stuff is cheap, and you'll notice. Also, some of the really important stuff is costum-made so you won't find any driver updates on the original manufacturers' websites either.

To share my frustration, what is the worst bit of junk you've ever been frustrated by?

A '76 Capri I once had. So many things went wrong with it at once that I called the salvage yard yard to come get it. Next day I went down to the dealer and bought the Mustang that is outside my office right now - total opposite of that Crapi.

Yes mine is Computer related as well. I bought an EI Systems laptop and took out a coverplan on it too. Well we started having problems straight away with it, and had to send it back endless times, but worst of all was an overheating problem. This got so bad that the paint actually melted on the surface of it! The keyboard was also badly designed so that the keys left long term marks on the screen that I couldn't get off. The thing completely went awol one day and I sent it back again, this time it had to get a new motherboard inside of it, however after this it refused to open a jpg. file without struggling, yet before-hand it managed this without any trouble. It still overheats and I'm still having problems with it. The coverplan is supposed to give me a new laptop if I have the repeat problem with my machine, however they have a 'six week rule', and if I don't send it back with the same problem for 6 weeks solidly then they don't do it. Great  Yeah sure

Of course, they don't tell you that when you take out the cover, Grrr. So, my advice to you is never to take out a coverplan from PC World, its not them, its a completely separate insurance company and they just don't budge  mad

My advice to myself would be to get a Mac. I've had it with OS updates, anti-virus this, anti-spyware that and firewall issues left and right. Now, if only those advertised student jobs didn't all say "immediately"... I'd know if I'll be able to get one later.  Silly

You probably won't believe it but it was a Rollei 35 SE. I bought one when I still went to school.

Actually it's a fine little camera with great Sonnar lenses, an LED meteric system an so on. But on the back there's this small lever on the right hand side of the viewfinder:

In an upright position, the lever allowed you to rewind the film. But if the lever was in a horizontal position, which frequently happened to me, because that thing did not lock in either a "down" or "up" position, and you tried to work the advance lever, the film didn't really move forward but the shutter was advanced.

These $19.99 earphones trying to duplicate the Shure or Etymonic style in the ear buds. I tried them once, they sucked. Within 5 minutes I took them out, ripped the cords with 1 pull and threw them out.

As well as a Lexmark color inkjet printer, it worked for a year and then started jamming for no reason. I put it, the cable and the manual into a garbage bag, and threw it to the curb for garbage pick up the next day. It was 2 printers ago (maybe 4-5 years back).

The Spics Girls CD someone got me for a birthday many years ago.. (And not as a joke). However, I can't say it got me frustrated, I just didn't listen to the bloody thing.

So I suppose the very worst would have to be my previous computer. Something would break, and as soon as I spent loads of money to repair it, something else would break down. After the harddrive started acting like $hit, I thought I was gonna go nuts. Fortunately after years of troube, I was able to buy a brand new computer, and have not had trouble since. *knocks on wood.*

Well, they're made in China and they're very flimsy. More importantly though, they just don't sound good to a trained ear, escpecially given the cost. You can get a set of cans for half the price that will blow those TriPorts out of the water.

Hmm.........well there was this little no-name DVD player I won at a little business party, it was probably $5 at Walmart.

Anyway, it took about 5 minutes for anything to show up on the screen after pressing play, it paused at random spots on brand new DVDs, and it managed to make the picture quality pre 1950 on a few of them.

It went to the shooting range with me a few months ago. It was thrown high in the air, and then met the spray from my 12-gauge. I shot it on the ground a few more times until all that was left were little buttons and plastic scraps. It was amusing.

Very true, those were given as a gift to me. As far as my headphone choice, I use my Stereo Sigtronics S-58S aviation headset, when I'm not flying with it, I just use a 1/4" to 8mm adapter plug and play MS Flight Simulator with it.

My experience with Jaguars is from back in the early seventies and they had issues, not least of which was the electrics from Joseph Lucas, The Man Who Invented Darkness. I sold parts for them.

The idea is not to see them as transportation. They were kind of like having a relationship with a beautiful, but very unreliable fashion model. Being seen by everyone arm in arm with Cindy Crawford would be enough to endure being stood up for all sorts of irrelevant and very expensive reasons, no?

For that there was the Chevy Biscayne, six cylinder, three on the tree.

I could... if the Windows system settings weren't the only place where the whole thing appears as a regular USB hub. It connects directly to the motherboard with some four-pin (or so) connector, then that cable goes to an integrated card reader/connector/USB hub thingy occupying a 5.25 inch slot. The internal Bluetooth transceiver, WLAN antenna and remote control receiver are all connected to that hub, so there's no way I could do anything about it.

I'd guess Gateway according to this, which may explain the problems!

Quote:

Founded in 1985 in a U.S. Midwestern farmhouse, Gateway has grown into one of the world's best known technology brands with millions of satisfied customers. Starting with a $10,000 loan guaranteed by his grandmother, a rented computer and a three-page business plan, founder Ted Waitt turned Gateway into a revolutionary company whose innovations helped shape the technology industry.

The company - previously called Gateway 2000 - received national acclaim in 1991 when it introduced its distinctive cow-spotted boxes, a tribute to its farm heritage. In 1993, it entered the Fortune 500 and went public, trading on the NASDAQ before moving its stock to the New York Stock Exchange in 1997. The following year, Gateway shifted its head office from North Sioux City, South Dakota, to southern California.

In March 2004, Gateway acquired eMachines, one of the world's fastest growing and most efficient PC makers. eMachines is the #2 retail-distributed brand of personal computer in the United States, providing award winning technical support and quality at low prices.

The company's brands are now sold through leading retailers in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Japan, the UK, and an expanding list of markets in Western Europe. Gateway remains dedicated to making the experiences of buying, owning and using a PC convenient and trouble free for its customers.

Throughout Gateway's evolution, its basic principles remain the same.

Best known for providing customers with the great value for their money and unparalleled service and support, Gateway continues to offer remarkably reliable, high quality products which are sleek, stylish and purposely designed to be simple to use. Offering the very latest in technology without making it overly technical is at the core of Gateway's philosophy.

Gateway's early value proposition of plain talk and fair dealing is still evident today. Gateway has always been devoted to treating customers with respect and decency, and it consistently ranks among the industry's top companies in customer loyalty, an accomplishment the company and its people prize highly.

Today, Gateway is proud to partner with the world's leading retailers to continue its tradition of providing excellent value and service to business and consumer users. As Gateway pushes into new frontiers, it remains dedicated to its original objective of helping people improve their lives through technology.

A 1979 Dodge Apsen 2 dr. sedan. I bought it used with about 20,000 miles on it, and got rid of it just over 3 years later with only about 50,000 miles on it. It was a seriously bad POS. I had problems with the carburator, the front suspension (bad ball joints), brakes, the A/C system failed and would need serious (about $400 or so) in repairs (which I didn't do), the hood latch failed as I was going about 50+ MPH, catching the hood and covering my windshield except for a gap at the bottom so I could pull over. For those outside the USA, these cars had a notorious repuation, among the worst ever for a USA made car. They were almost the USA version of the Soviet era Lada or Skoda.

I thought the Aspen & Volare were relatively decent cars towards the end of their life (1976-1980)... hmm... must have been wrong.

I know they had serious rusting problems and major issues with the carburetors in the 1976-77 versions... but hey, perhaps they fixed the rust issue and forgot about the rest...  Wink
