I'd guess April-May timeframe. I'm pretty sure Apple would also bump the specs (CPUs) across their laptop lines.

I talked to Klaus on this, and he said that it would be later in the spring.

Well, actually some time in spring as the official word goes. Might be later, might be earlier... The crystal ball is still hazy about the exact date...!

There are still a lot of bugs which need to be worked out..but so far it looks pretty good (even though I'm not an "Apple" guy)....

I am also looking forward to the new system, but actually it is not urgent because the actual OS X 10.4.8 is fare better than the "new" Windows Vista. Big grin

Agreed... I am new convert to MAC, only wished I would have done it sooner!

I switched a bit over 2 years ago, and have never looked back. The only thing that I miss is MSFS, but when I buy an intel mac in the near future, that problem will be alleviated!

Does anyone know if/when MS is planning to release a new version office for Mac? I know that they just released Office 2007 (tried it out on a friend's PC, it's miserable) for XP/Vista, so I'm guessing, like Office 2003, a Mac version is in the pipes somewhere along the line.

Is it recommendable to wait for the Leopard version? Is it much different to the current one?

And yes, I think I will buy a MacBook soon.

Any current Macbook could easily handle the upgrade. You can take a look at the features coming in Leopard at Apple's OS X page:

It's really your call if you want to wait or not.

Thanks a lot for the link, I will take a look later.

I think that I will wait but one thing is for sure: My new computer is definitely a Mac! A friend used his MacBook for entertaining purposes (music) on a party last Saturday, I played a bit with it (the first time that I sat infront of a Mac) and I really, really liked it.

I'll most definitely upgrade to the new version as a longtime user of 10.4 Tiger; So far all upgrades have been well worth it - in general the system will actually get faster even on the same hardware.

The question is if a paid upgrade a bit later can make up for getting your new machine sooner, and that mostly depends on your personal craving level or actual necessity relative to the depth of your finances.

Apple often allows for a grace period of a few weeks back from the official release of the new system where hardware purchases will retroactively include free system upgrades, but I wouldn't count on that yet, if at all.

If the price of the upgrade looks significant to you and you don't need to get the machine now, I'd wait for a few weeks yet. It can't be that long from now.

Not getting Leopard at all would be nonsensical at this point in time.

Apple has only released a part of the changes to the public; Chances are that some of the most significant features have been withheld so far. I'd say even the already publicized changes are nothing to sneeze at (especially Time Machine), even though some of the biggest upgrades are often "below the water line" to be leveraged by applications yet to emerge.

Excellent!  Smile
I would recommend opting for the Core 2 Duo with 4MB cache (in every except the low-end MacBook) - it does make a difference in performance! And 2GB of RAM are highly recommended, even if not strictly necessary....

If any questions should remain, just keep asking...

I don't need it now, I have two computers but the notebook must be replaced in the near future because it has a display damage. I was thinking of the Sony C-Series but somehow I changed my mind on Saturday evening when my friend showed his MacBook to me.  Wink

Thanks!

My friend (also an IT professional and die-hard Mac freak) offered me the same, good to know that there are two people to ask.  Wink

I see... in that case I'd wait a little and get the new system (and maybe even a minor hardware upgrade) for free in return.

You're welcome - and I guess you sort of knew you would be...!
