I'll be traveling to visit my friend in NYC in about 2 weeks. He actually lives in Connetticut, but we want to take to train into NYC one night for some bar hopping. Preferably in Manhatten, but I guess they can be anywhere around NYC, do you guys have any suggestions as to what areas to visit. I think we are more into bars then clubs, and the comparable areas in Chicago I can think of would be Wriglyville or Linkoln Park. Thanks for any input...

Turtle Bay, around 53rd and 3rd Ave. Start there and you can bar hop in either direction from there.

If you desire a wine bar, Divine Bar, 52nd and 2nd? (check that though)

Mudville 9 is a good Sports Bar. It was down south, somewhere in the teens I believe. Not too sure.

Not even close. It's 126 Chambers. Cross street is Church. This place has awesome wings in a variety of flavors. Check it out.

One of my favorites is Old Peculiar Pub - on Bleecker and LaGuardia

You can also try McSorely's Pub at 15 East 7th Street.

You can also see the Monkey Bar on Little West 12th Street.

You can try those. They're all laid-back kind of joints, but definitely have a very NYC feel for them.

If you're up for something rowdier, go to Hogs 'n Heifers, the Village Idiot or Coyote Ugly. But, they all suck in my opinion. People there try too hard to be cool.

Good Luck, have fun, stay out of trouble.

Since you'll be coming in from CT, Grand Central is where you'll be starting your romp.

Start your evening in GCT at the Campbell Apartments - JP Morgan's old hangout. That will be your first drink.

Second drink at a place (forget the name) that connects GCT to Park Ave (in the passage) - more of a lounge.

If it's a Friday, I might head up to Opia on 57th/Lex, they are a lounge and there's quite an after-work buzz there - Also Gallic Ownership = pretty young things.

Drink #4 - head down to Punch on 21st and Broadway (upstairs). Spectacular Wine Bar. My friend and I were the only two guys in there - everyone else was female. can't recommend this place enough.

Drink #5 head out to the Meatpacking District, even though Google has moved there. There is is great rooftop Bar with a view on the top of the Gansevoort Hotel.

Drink #6: If you haven't passed out by this time, head to the Buddha Bar around the corner....

All places above guaranteed for good looking waitstaff/patrons.

Hope this helps...Have Fun!

Damn, you beat me to it. Turtle Bay is fantastic on the weekends. One of my favorite bars of all time.

Let me know if you are more interested in other parts of the city, these are just what I have been frequenting for the past 3-4 months.

You should really consider spending the night in the city, no one wants to conclude a splendid night with a ride on the Metro North. I don't know how deep your pockets are, but if price is a concern, Hotel 57 is quite good($295) as is Dream($287). If it isn't, the Four Seasons is an old fav and the Mandarin was superb when I stayed there for the first time two weeks ago.
