That's right. After 30+ days of inactivity because of being at Field Training for Air Force ROTC, A.net is to now be once again graced by my presence.      

Overall, the experience wasn't too bad. The way people who had (correctly) described it to me before I left was "it's the most fun you never want to have again." Parts of it did completely suck, while other parts were actually rather fun, though the best part was leaving. The bus erupted in cheers as we drove out the gates of Maxwell AFB to head to the Atlanta Airport. Looked kinda' like the scene on the Hanoi Taxi.

The first stop off the bus (well, after checking in) was to one of the shops in the central atrium to buy a 20 oz. Coca-Cola and some Skittles. Best Coca-Cola I've had in my life.  

I know this isn't too much information. Part of the problem is we're not really supposed to talk about what we do at Field Training. I just wanted to let everyone know I'm back and I'm glad to see a.net is still here and operating.   

Now I can enjoy the remaining two months of summer before returning to ERAU in late August.

So how was the golf? Get a sun burn while carrying the Captain's clubs?    I'm kidding of course, your service to our country is really appreciated  .

Hi, I've did a week out in the field with our military a few weeks back, and I total understand what you mean. Part of the time you hate it, other times you love it. I mean, I had to deal with a guy who had hypothermia because it was so cold and the weather was so bad on night, I had to sleep in a wet sleeping bag, put camo cream on about twice a day, and then clean the damn stuff off, walk with a heavy 90L bergan on my back, Webbing and radio kit, run around, deal with medical situations, eat out of bloody ration packs night after night, sleep under basha and then have some nice dry officer who's been indoors the whole time come and ask you 'how are you doing', well, I don't think i'd have been able to stay if I'd said what I wanted to really say lol.
Trust me, we got wet and there were many times I just wanted to pack up and go home, as I said, we had some of the worst weather they've had in ages, I couldn't describe how BAD it was, not just the weather, but everything, moral was pretty low at most points, but now I look back, it's all worth it, and that's what you've got to remember, no matter how cold and wet it is, just get your head down and carry on. As the old saying goes, it separtes the men from the boys.

Strange how much you love small thing in life like a class of coke or home cooking once you've been out in the field eh ? But well done from a fellow 'soldier' hehe.

Welcome back...I have some friends in the USAF ROTC that went on their field training this past summer...I am sure I will get to talk to them (albeit limited quantities) when school resumes for me.

Funny thing is, our dorms were right next to the golf course and we marched or ran by other parts of the course numerous times. Very saddening to know I couldn't just break formation and go play a round.

   Maybe the school will get hit by another natural disaster and delay the start of the semester again.

Yea. It's really the specifics that you can't talk about, like some of the "surprises" they throw at us during the regular encampment and during the Field Training Exercise (simulated deployment). But it will be nice to be able to talk about it and share stories with the upper-class men and fellow cadets who went through the program now that I have done the same.

Thank you as well, and Amen to that. I downed so much soda when we finally got to ATL. I first bought a 20 oz at one of the vendor stores in the central atrium. Then I downed about 6 glasses at the Chili's in the A Concourse. A soda on the flight home. And then about 4 glasses of Mountain Dew at the restaurant where we ate dinner that night.   

I think the weirdest thing though is now I feel like if I sleep till noon, I've completely wasted the day. I mean, at Field Training, our day was nearly half-over by noontime (wake up was 0400, lights out was 2100). So for better or worse, I'm a little more productive with my day around the house now. We'll see how long it takes till that wears off.

Yup, we'd start off at between 5am - 6am and not finish untill 10-11pm, it took a week or so to wear off for me. But yea, nice to come back and be able to sleep in your own bed, not be shouted at 24/7 and the such, but I do miss the free helicopter rides (went on Chinooks) hehe, I went out and ate a huge steak meal on the night I got back and drank a whole load of coke so I know what you mean.
