First, there were the famed "association" topics, where members would post one or two word comments relating to the post preceding. These were banned, yet just as quickly replaced with "...game" posts. City game, song game, and so on. In a stroke of irritating genius, the new "post too short" feature was added to this website, making sure that posts had to contain something of value before being posted.
Today, it appears that also added has been the "post too long" feature. Whether this was added at the same time as the too-short post or not isn't clear, however, rambling, pages-long, thesis sorts of things are banned at this point as well. Posts which would take users forever and a day to read are no longer allowed. I guess that copy of Moby Dick I was going to put up just, well... won't happen.

However, you can STILL post ONLY a picture (with ZERO text attached).

What exactly is going on here? Why can't we post just a small sentence? This is really irritating.

It is aggravating indeed.

Lots of times you want to just add a "thumbs-up/down" or a  Smile to somebody's post!

Now you better be prepared to seek out a lot of lonnnngggg words, or use about 25 smilies, instead of just 1.

Short posts can be "meaningful" too....don't you all agree?

Well, I'd say short posts can be useful. After all,

"I love you." always went over well without further explanation  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Here is the explanation for the short messages:

The message you were about to post is too short and probably not of any higher value to the topic at hand. You should think long and hard before posting a message in this forum and make it detailed and a valuable addition to the topic discussed.

Avoid posting "Me Too" messages. These are messages that are posted by people who agree to a point being discussed and post a one liner, "me too!", "Good post Jim!", "I disagree" or similar message. This takes up time as readers must sort through these messages which have no real value to the group at large. Any message containing nothing more than a line or two of text is probably not worth posting.

If you have an opinion on a topic, you should in detail express why you have the opinion and what made you come to that conclusion.

Your post should be relevant to the topic discussed.

OK hold on, don't tell me that short messages can't be relevant, "me too" is irrelevant as is "I agree", but relevant things can be said in a few words........Come on.

And don't tell me that the "your message is too long" thing also applies to Trip Reports, they are usually very long.

Well, for those of you who have tested the post-too-long feature, you will note that it doesn't really exist. It's an April Foolsy thing, but I think I got too close to the "could-be-real" line. (Blushes?)

DAMN YOU, 747-600X!!  Smile  Smile I SWORE I wouldn't fall for any of these April Fool's joke today and over on the civil aviation forum I didn't, but you, YOU! You had me going there.  Smile. I was worried 'cause I tend to get a little wordy sometimes.

And BTW, you may NOT be kidding. I posted a trip report last August and the last part got cut off and I had to actually post the thing in pieces.

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/11958

I don't mind the too short feature, though. Seems like a lot of people used to play word association, and/or respond to posts with LOL!, I Agree, Whatever dude, You rock, etc, and then turn around and brag "Hey everybody look at me!! I have 1000 posts!" Well BIG F'ing Deal. If I only posted 1 liners, I'd have 1000 posts, too.JMHO. (Hope that wasn't too long  Smile

What's so bad about short postings!?
Threads like "city game" or "name association" were very, very popular... perhaps there are some persons who don't like this thread, but they don't have to read them!

The 'post too short' rule is stupid. It may solve some problems, but it creates more than it solves.

Sometimes, 'yes' or 'no' is all the answer needed for questions. Or, perhaps a link to a web site.

With the message to short just simply do the space trick. I would be in favor of a too long post limt, compared to a short post limit. A lot can be said in few words. We all know that nothing can be said with a lot of words.

Yes, LAX, I got that too. For those of you who haven't hit perfect medium and gotten that one, here it is:

Post Too Mid-Length

Your post is neither long enough to be sufficiently explanatory of a deep and meaningful thought or short enough to be friendly and breif. Please either say what you're damn well saying instead of just giving us half the information, or shut up already. Either way, your post got too close to the center and requires some rethinking. D'oh!
