Topic: Why Lacmta Do Support Home State Gillig? Username: 747400sp Posted 2012-05-15 18:00:53 and read 700 times. When I look at LACMTA fleet, they mostly have NABI, Neoplans and New Flyers. Even as SCRTD, they operated GMC, Flixble and Neoplans, but they never ordered new Gillig. Yes they operated used Gillig Phantom in the late 90's early 2000's, but I never seen brand new Gilligs in their fleet. Seeing that Gillig is a California company, I would think California largest city, would buy some new ones for their transit agency, so why no new LACMTA Gilligs? |

Traditionally, Gillig has avoided the largest transit authorities, and has focused on smaller ones. However, this has changed in recent years, where more and more larger TAs are buying Gilligs.

HRT, ( Hampton Roads Transit ) here, have an all Gillig fleet, with the exception of the Ford based Handie Rides, eventhough they all slowly phasing out their Phantoms fleet, but they have of plenty, or more like tons of Advanages and a few short BRTs. |

Gillig is one of the bidders, along with New Flyer, NABI, and ElDorado National. The contract should be awarded by June 1. |

I hope Gillig get the contract, California needs money making business right now.

Don't worry, Gillig is doing just fine, and things could get better for them now that Daimler is closing Orion. Of the remaining major (New Flyer, Gillig, Nova Bus, and NABI) manufacturers, I would probably say that NABI is probably the most vulnerable.
