  It was one of those unfortunate situations when I had forgotten to bring my camera with me. However the view was too good to not be photographed, so the cameraphone had to do. I took 18 frames and the one uploaded was the best - unfortunately it seems to have a slightly pink/red tint.

That's one tall smoke column, considering that Mt. Wilson (the ridge in the center of the photo) is 5,700 feet.

The first on is a little aviation related. That helicopter pilot was flying like crazy, he passed about 20 meters above our heads a few times at ~150kph

The classic rally cars did one run through the stages after the first run by the pro drivers. Here is a Renault 5 Turbo. Also driving was 3 Lancia Stratos, A Golf Mk.1, a Trabant, a Wartburg 311 and a bunch of Fiat Abarth 124s and 131s.


One of the safety cars driving the stage before start. A new 4 door Impreza STI. It was my first rally Germany and I was really impressed how easy the access was and how close we were to the cars compared to Sweden and Norway.

This and most of my Le Mans photos were taken with the Canon 100-400L IS USM. Though for this and the closeups like it I should mention that I climbed one of the low barriers and shot directly through the chain-link fence, which is a tactic that I'm not sure the marshals like you doing. I was shooting in the 9-10AM region on Sunday morning which is pretty dead in terms of crowd activity, so no one gave me trouble. The frontal angle really helps for these because I am not good at panning with this lens.

So, the local camera club started back this week after the summer recess (it's like going back to school!) and we were asked to have two abstract and two reflection prints for a competition, which was judged by the members on a show of hands (one vote per member and, like the Eurovision, you couldn't vote for your own). My abstract prints didn't rate, but I was delighted to come second in the reflection competition. And it was all the more surprising as some of the members are very experienced photograpers with some very expensive equipment. The pic that I took with my DSLR didn't rate, but this is the one that came second, which I took on my point-and-shoot a couple of years ago. Just goes to show that you don't always have to have the most advanced kit to take a nice shot!

Went up there many times when I lived in Pasadena.
That is the launch area for hang gliders and they would land at our high school football feild.

Actually, I'm not technically a member of the band. It's a former coworker's band, and they lost their bassist a few months ago. So I've been doing a bunch of stuff with them: playing gigs, shooting a video, laying down bass tracks on some songs....pretty much everything except practicing with them.  

Not sure how much longer that will go on. It's a lot of fun, and nothing too difficult at all, but it's not really my scene.

Too bad you weren't in LA in 1987 during the hair metal years. You would have been perfect in that scene. I caught the tail end of it and unfortunately was too young to get in to the 21 & over clubs to really get the full taste of it.
By the time I turned 21 in 1994, the grunge cancer had already spread and glam rock was gone.  

Seriously though, those photos look like they could be on an album cover or on the inner-sleeve.
Reminds me of the first Skid Row and Damn Yankees album covers.

I was listening to a '90s mix I made earlier today. Reminded me how much I love a lot of those songs (to be fair, most of them aren't "grunge" really - more just rock/hard rock). There's just something about a lot of '90s production/sound that I love.

Are you implying that you stuffed a sock 'down there' to enhance you're look?
