I dont know how they would pay for the insurance? Its also quite sad to see how many Illegal immigrants are here in my State of Illinois.

Also on a side note, Illinois license plate fees go up an additional 2 dollars from $99 to 101/ 1 dollar to help construction, 1 dollar to help the state parks.

It somewhat sounds like France where any illegal alien is allowed to work. All illegal aliens who can prove they have worked 8 months in France will get resident cards with all incurring benefits -including unemployment money, medical, housing, bringing relatives, etc....

 

I'm probably not as harsh to illegal aliens as many, but they really need to NOT pass laws like this and work on making people legal. Being illegal here just flies in the face of the law IMO and making accommodation like this just supports lawlessness. They need to make these people legal--maybe not citizens, but something--rather than just accepting the fact that they are breaking the law and make accommodations for them

That's why they have "Sanctuary" cities in Texas. The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 addressed the relationship between the federal government and local governments. Minor crimes, such as shoplifting, became grounds for possible deportation. Additionally, the legislation outlawed cities' bans against municipal workers' reporting persons' immigration status to federal authorities

You would be amazed how many people don't have auto insurance to begin with.

Just because somebody has a license doesn't mean they will have insurance. You can have a license and not own a car, therefore you don't need insurance.

There are probably thousands of people in Illinois with no insurance who drive everyday. They either have paid for insurance long enough to get their car registered or don't have a valid plate on it to begin with. Here in Wayne county, Michigan it is said one in five drivers doesn't have insurance. If you start looking closely you would see a large number of plates that are expired. I have seen it in a lot of places too. My parents live in a condo complex in the western suburbs of St. Louis and every car in their complex with out of state tags are expired and the people drive them daily. These people aren't poor either they just don't bother. I guess they figure the cops won't notice. I even said something to my parents neighbor who has a Mercedes with three year old California plates. I said "watch out for the cops with those expired plates" She said that she was avoiding Missouri personal property tax and was going to keep her expired plates until she got a ticket. I assume my parents other neighbors with expired Florida plates on their cars are doing the same thing.

Illinois has always been a bit loose on drivers licenses, registrations, and insurance. I once had an Illinois license and didn't really live in Illinois. I was able to get instate tuition that way.

I spent a number of years living in St. Louis, Missouri and it was well known that if you saw a car with Illinois temp tags you knew that the driver likely had no insurance. At one time, maybe still, you didn't even need to live in Illinois to get an Illinois temp tag and they were good for months and you didn't need proof of insurance.

Michigan has several thousand non citizens on its voting roles. At one time they were asking everyone to register to vote when they got their license (I did that when I moved to Michigan). Since Michigan wasn't checking citizenship non citizens were registered.

I wonder how much money Illinois will get from the people getting a drivers license? A few years ago Michigan switched license plates and they estimated they got an extra $5,000,000 in plate fees from people who usually didn't bother to renew their plates. Because all the old plates would go away after a year it was obvious if you were driving on expired plates. Illinois is broke and I am sure they would rake in some bucks from Illegals who got a drivers license.

About two years ago Texas implemented a system where police and state troopers can verify if an individual has auto insurance instantly from their squad cars computer. The database it is linked to is updated monthly. Now they can catch the people who only pay for a month or two on their insurance and then stop paying.

The coverage cards show you have a policy for a year even if you pay month to month. So people were just paying enough to get a card then not paying the rest resulting in an expired insurance policy but they have a card showing they are covered. Now the police don't even ask you for your coverage card anymore. They just check on the computer.

In Texas you need to show your proof of insurance card when buying a car, renewing your license plates (even though the renewal office has the same computer the police do), and annual safety inspections.

And even with this system in place there are still a lot of people out there without insurance in Texas. And a lot of the fatal DUI type of accidents involve illegal aliens from Mexico.

A lot of people just comply with whatever the government tells them and they think everyone does the same. In some areas, like the city of Detroit, a lot of the motor vehicle laws are willfully disregarded by police because they have a lot bigger fish to fry with the man power they have.

Remember when we got pulled over back in '09? I assumed I was going to jail because I disregarded several laws, including one that was a felony. The cops just told us to go home; I guess they had bigger trouble to deal with that night. I honestly think they let me go because I was driving a junk truck and they probably figured I had no money and since the I had insurance and valid plates they figured I was too honest to be up to no good.

I got pulled over last spring and the cop never even asked to see my insurance. He asked me if even had a drivers license. When I produced a valid license he seemed impressed. He was even more impressed that I had a valid plate that was registered to the truck. The cop even told me what to say to get the charge reduced when I went to court. A lot of places no police officer would do that and they would check all the documents too. I asked a friend of mine who is a policeman in the same city about his brother officer asking "do you happened to have your license?". My friend told me that usually anyone driving a $500 vehicle in these parts doesn't have a license, insurance, valid plates, or a combination of the three.

We need that in Michigan. If we did I am sure the civil rights advocates would claim it was bigoted towards poor people (which to them always means minorities, not the poor whites in my neighborhood). Even though Michigan requires insurance I am sure people would be complain.

A lot of business minded Republicans like to keep the illegals here too, they keep wages low. Some Republicans talk a good game about border security, but don't really seem to mean it. The illegal problem isn't ever going to be fixed. Democrats will cater to them because they think they think that if they eventually get legal they'll vote for them and Republicans that are backed by big business will continue to let them walk across the border to keep wages down.
