The Saints and Falcons (who play each other tomorrow night, hence the Saints flying into ATL tonight) may be rivals, but this is still low. Looks like the land of unemployment just gained a few new folks:

Quote:
If you're questioning the intensity of the rivalry between the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, check out this tweet from Saints backup quarterback Chase Daniel. It came just minutes after the team's charter flight touched down in Atlanta on Wednesday night.

@ChaseDaniel: Wow, as we're boarding buses on the Tarmac @ Atlanta airport, we start getting eggs thrown @ us by airport workers! Guess they do hate us!

Saints teammates Jermon Bushrod and Jimmy Graham re-tweeted Daniel's message, which was tweeted at 7:48 p.m. Wednesday.

Graham confirmed Daniel's tweet a few minutes later:

@JimmyGraham: Bus just got egged after landing in ATL by the ramp workers. Classy! "RISE Up" smh

Linebacker Will Herring also confirmed the incident:

@wherring54 First time my bus has been egged by opposing fans! Tomorrow should be fun!! #WhoDatNation

As a Saints fan, this is quite interesting. Who Dat!!

I wonder if the Saints charter pulled up at a gate, or at the FBO. At ATL, the FBO is on the north edge of the field, near FedEx, off Runway 8L/26R.

I ask this since I've stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Concourse. While there, saw a FL 737 pull up at the FBO, let off a college football team, then taxi over to the gates to presumably return to regularly scheduled service.

The nola.com article says tarmac, but I was just wondering.

My question is, who was operating the charter and whose "ramp workers" were they?

You guys have NO idea what a REAL rivalry is like. Much worse than this happens when the Bears and Packers meet.

Yeah, it made the rounds on the local news down here in New Orleans.

Overall it's pretty classless and juvenile, but not surprising considering some of the people who work at the ATL airport. I have no idea how some of those people got SIDA badges.

Why is this in Civil Aviation?

My guess is that the aircraft parked at Landmark as flight aware doesn't have a gate assigned for that flight.

And sorry, it's actually quite funny, no matter how juvenile it is.

They should be fired. Not only because they lack the integrity and intelligence to refrain from engaging in this behavior while on the ramp, but because they were also too stupid to realize that the busses were from local companies and not the Saints' private vehicles.

Ramp access demands that intelligence and integrity to maintain a secure environment.

The Bears and Packers are two of the oldest NFL franchises, they're relatively close to each other (the Bears are from Chicago and the Packers from Green Bay) and more than once have been two of the best teams in their conference and even a few years ago the final game between them has determined who will go to the superbowl.. I live in a suburb of Chicago and in junior high after a game a kid was expelled from school after the Packers lost and he brought a knife to stab a Bears fan who made fun of him for it.

But in the end I do find the egg throwing kind of humorous but the rampers should definitely be fired. You're representing your company no matter what town you are in or where the customers come from.

Seriously though, as much as I enjoy sport I find it so hard to understand those who feel the need to go to such extremes because a group of grown men failed to kick or throw a ball around as effectively as another group of men. Then again, most of the world has gone to war at one point or another just because the "enemy" chooses to call their imaginary friend "Bob" rather than "Dick"

Hmmm, under the current rules on liquids,

a) are uncooked eggs covered by said regulation?
b) if so, how many uncooked eggs can an employee bring before the per capita limit for liquids is exhausted?
c) were the eggs properly screened in a sealed, transparent plastic bag?

HAHAHAH!!! It's rivalry, sad as it may be that people will go to so much further extremes... but this isn't "harmful" or damaging to equipment... it's simple and funny to most.

Sux that some people have ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE OF HUMOR and think everyone should be canned on the spot! I'd say suspend them a days pay just to show they were reprimanded, but not fire them for an age old rivalry.

And yes, it still amazes me also that people get downright mean and even fatally vengeful... it's sad!

This was simple fun and yeah, they didn't "think" before, but some people need to "live" a little and get that "funny bone" reinserted!

I know they fly UA, I work for UA. While ATL may not be a big out station ,I would think our ground workers could handle a charter.

I certainly hope it wasn't UA workers. Not the attention we need. Whomever it was it was extremely stupid. While it would probably be impossible...if they want to make a statement, work the flight in your Falcons gear.

Some may find this interesting:

In September of 1996 after Arizona State had beaten Nebraska 19-0 (game labeled as upset of the decade), I was on a United DC-10 the next morning PHX-DEN connecting to another DC-10 DEN-OMA (those were the days!!   ), anyway, the departure monitors at the airport showing all the flight and gate information was instead flashing huge, full-screen "ASU-19 Lil' Red-0", no gate information was showing on the monitors at all!!

Once on the plane, the United rampers had put all kinds of signs (some not appropriate) on the luggage cart...about 6 or 7 buggies long, and drove it around the plane in a circle as we were loading for about 30 minutes. This was not a charter, just a United scheduled flight that happened to be full of Nebraska fans going back home.

I don't have time to throw any eggs or such things at a bus. You'd get automatically arrested by the police who escorts the buses.
(at least the Falcons have a good team this year - till the face the Giants! LOL! I think the Saints will beat them tonite.) I've worked a few charters and they are fun. You get to see the players up close and some even stop to pose for pics. Got to see the Super Bowl trophy a couple of times close up. When Dallas & Miami comes in on AA, they usually park on the Terminal A hardstand where most people takes pictures of them coming down the steps. There are a lot of Cowboy fans in the area, so the Cowboys and Romo doesn't get razzed that much.

A quick story. B6 has a 320 that is painted in Red Sox colors for their 100th year anniversary. All of the rampers working the flight were wearing Yankee caps! I'm trying to find the picture I took of them.

Back in '86, when the Bears won the Super Bowl over the Patriots, I was working the following day and I knew that the flight crew on our 7am SLC-DFW was BOS based. So, on pushback, I made sure that I was wearing my Bears cap and jacket. As they were disconnecting the jet tug, and I saluted him and signaled for him to go, I pointed to my jacket and cap and he responded by giving me the finger.

I'm usually in charge of the catering when teams come into DEN for whatever club that flies on us and (at least my kitchen) doesn't screw around. I was told I would be suspended for wearing any of my steelers gear when the broncos left for NE after "Tim Tebow 80" which I jokingly said I would do (I know better than that).

My boss was telling me an old story during the Houston Oilers days somebody thought they would be funny and filled all the overheads with Oranges, which apparently pissed off the entire team and almost cost the company a contract (and they were promptly dismissed). With that said: a few bad apples doesn't speak for the rest of the tree. Hopefully the company handled it properly and took their IDs the minute they got back to the break room.

I think its funny.

But if UA loses this contract I would not be surprised if there are some job openings in ATL in the upcoming weeks.

Where does anything say it was UAL ramp?

The other side is why is it always "fire 'em" on this site? It's aviation not a religion

Because in this situation, being egged is something that one would least expect out on the ramp in the secure area. The ramp is not a playground. It is a very dangerous place to be. You can be killed out there if you're screwing around like that. Pulling that kind if crap is very unprofessional and deserves sacking.

I know they fly UA, I work for UA. While ATL may not be a big out station ,I would think our ground workers could handle a charter.

UA has ramp service in ATL but many times charters are not handled by ramp services at outstations.
