Starting at 10:26 UTC (12:26pm in Damascus), Syria's international Internet connectivity shut down. In the global routing table, all 84 of Syria's IP address blocks have become unreachable, effectively removing the country from the Internet.

Emirates suspends flights to Damascus
BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian rebels battled forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad just outside Damascus on Thursday, restricting access to its international airport, and the Dubai-based Emirates airline and EgyptAir stopped flights to the Syrian capital.
A rebel fighter who identified himself as Abu Omar, a member of the Jund Allah brigade, told Reuters that insurgents fired mortars at the airport's runways and were blocking the road linking it with the capital.

My dad flew out of Damascus with EK on Tuesday after spending the day in Damascus. It was relatively calm then. I have been trying to contact relatives in Damascus, but it certainly looks like all mobiles and landlines are down. I don't think either side is going to give up until the entire country is destroyed. Another sad day for the people of Syria.

This is going to be hell real fast. But what can anyone do? I mean we can't intervene unless warranted.

1425 GMT: After more clashes last night near the Damascus International Airport, it Egypt and the United Arab Emirates will probably not be flying to and from Damascus any time soon. The Guardian reports:

"Airlines are not operating to Damascus today," said a Dubai-based airline official. EgyptAir and Emirates suspended flights to Syria on Thursday.
