*It's got San Diego! - Attractive, livable city. Rare for right leaning towns.

*It's got San Francisco - The highest rents in America, which indicates to me lots of people want to live there. Kinda like Tulsa. .....eh, wait.

*It's the one state in the Union full of people who see through the modern Republican charade.

*It's got citizens who say things like "I am sure G W sniffed lines of Cocaine at this pad

* Yosemite. Fly already covered that....look at that picture. Tell me God wasn't having a banner friggin' day that day?

* It gave me the love of my life..... a So Cal surf hottie (and his Rottie)

* It's probably the one state left I would entertain thoughts of moving too.

Props to the West Coast, the Left Coast, the Most Coast!.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Forget KBAB, the town of Linda, with its pink strip (skank) club and almost as many crystal Meth labs as Riverside/San Bernadino was the happenin' spot!

Sac-town is a nice spot though, I'll give it that.

Been there several times, on holiday and on job (SFO).
It's hard to find anything NOT to like there, best thing ...the people I guess, but living in such a nice climate does make people behave rather nice, even when dealing with us weasels Big grin
What I don't like? Too much silicone to be found in Californian breasts, too much overall and way too much (!!!) per average application.

I love California, it is my favorite US state. I have been there twice with a buddy and both times I enjoyed it very much. We flew to SFO, picked up our rental car (first time a Chrysler Sebring Convertible, second time a Mercury Sable) and than we drove to the Lake Tahoe area, to Sacramento, back to San Francisco, furthermore to Santa Rosa, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Diego before we left California for Las Vegas. It was a big advantage that my buddy has relatives in every city where we stayed (except Las Vegas), so we could save a lot of money for hotel rooms and we saw a lot more than regular tourists would see. Superfly, I can confirm that the best marijuana in the USA is available in California  Smokin cool.

Gosh!!!!! Where to begin?

Of course, the obvious has already been stated: namely Superfly in the north and myself in the South. CA, for all its negatives (shallow, airheaded women, overcrowding, overtaxation, etc.) does have a lot of fine points to it. Shoot, I wish I had some of my pictures here with me.

There's something for everyone here.

For starters, CA probably has just about every form of geography, topography, and climate imaginable.

If you like the desert, the High Desert (Victorville, Apple Valley, Palmdale, etc) have some breathtaking scenery. Here you will find gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, cobalt blue skies, nice breezes in the spring and fall, scorching summer days, and snow in the winter.

The low desert (Palm Springs, Indio, etc) is great for both the young and the old. There are golf courses everywhere. Fine dining in Palm Springs, great nightlife. Both a great retirement area and place to spend a weekend. Warm to very hot sunny climate year round.

If you're "heartland at heart", and like flat agricultural lands, small town ambience, and friendly people, (or no people at all) the San Joaquin Valley is for you. Whether it's the dry and arid areas near Bakersfield and Kettleman City, or the rolling hills east of Fresno, or the flat plantations that make up everything from Visalia to sacramento, its all here. Vineyards and orchards stretch from horizon to horizon. Fresno which anchors it all, has all the niceties and wants of any Big City, yet offers easy access to the mountains and both LA and the Bay Area.

The Sierra Nevada mountains speak for themselves. Hiking, skiing, fishing, fresh air, pine trees, nature watching, an escape from the Urban Concrete forest. This is THE place to go. Kings Canyon, Yosemite, and Sequoia Park have it all. A drive up rt 198 or 180 to Pine Flat Lake or Trimmer springs are a great way to spend an afternoon.

The Central Coast, from about Oxnard to Monterey have a nice cool, misty, almost Oriental feel to them. Many honeymoons and anniversary dates have involved drives up US 1 or US 101.

If you're a people and city person, there is an endless abundance of choices. From Chinatown to Olvera Street to the Liberal cultural atmosphere of Santa Monica and San Francisco to the snooty Masterplanned communities of South Orange County and Temecula.....and everything in between. We've got it all.

And then there's our beaches.....

I tend to hang out at San Clemente myself.

Huntington Beach???????

I don't know where you found THAT picture, but HB isn't anything as serene or picturesque as that snapshot implies. Besides being the terminus of Beach Blvd, and apparently the *only* beach that 9 million out of the 10 million people here seem to know how to find, you have to watch out for syringes, discarded transplant organs, and soiled diapers while swimming in the water.

I always steer waaaayyyy clear of that beach.

Lots of great powerful women come from California as well.

Nancy Pelosi
America's highest ranking woman in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Barbara Boxer
A strong willed Senator that speaks out on behalf of the less fortunate and stands up to the evil corporations that sellout working class Americans.
I am proud to have her as my U.S. Senator

Diane Feinstein is a good Senator too but a little too conservative for me.
I still vote for her.

Barbara Lee
One of my favorite members of Congress.

Maxine Waters
My favorite member of Southern California's delegation to Congress.

It's the people, stupid! LA and SF have got to be two of the most diverse cities in the world, and its inhabitants, for the most part, have learned to get along with one another. There aren't many places in the world where few people don't bat an eyelid when they encounter gays, punks, freaks, eccentrics and stoners....

I like Northern California better but SoCal has some advantages. SoCal has way better drivers, cheaper record stores, more parking spaces and that's about it.  Smile

Exactly!
I meant to ad 'the people' in my original post.
Even diverse cities like New York and Boston has severe race relation problems. Althought the East-coast is very Democratic which is a good thing , the overall culture is very stiff, uptight, classist and almost arrogant.
If I ever moved from San Francisco, I'd take the Upper-Midwest (MN, WI, MI), Canada or France.

This is, in a way, a bad thing (at least for the kids anyway). I see kids nowadays clearly trying so hard to be outrageous. They have spiked hair, displaying all seven colors of the rainbow, not to mention tattooes and enough metal piercings to make a car out of. Not to mention wearing unmatched shoes, and pants so low that their ass cheeks are hanging out.

And not one person pays any attention to them. NOBODY dresses like that unless they are trying to put on a show.

Nobody.

In a way, I kind of feel bad for them. Because when I was their age (say, back in 1985), our Vice Principal-Mr. Brinegar would have kindly explained his disapproval of this kind of dress by putting their head through a wall. I almost want to go up to them and say "too bad its not 1974. People would be beating the SHIT out of you."

1. San Francisco

2. The fact that SoCal is far from San Francisco

3. In 'n' Out

4. Good, cheap, Chinese food

5. Sequoiah National Park

6. Orange Empire Railway Museum, in Perris (easily the finest array of operating historic rolling stock in the world- I'd urge everyone to go see it at ).

7. The opportunity I had to live there- I loved it!

8. The border at Blythe- last seen in the rear-view mirror of my '76 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado Cabriolet as I moved back home to Texas.

9. Palm Springs- perfect environs for the Eldo;

10. Laguna Beach- SoCal's most refreshing community

11. The noise-abatement departure from 19R at SNA, in a lightly-loaded 757- wheeee!
