Hello all, a few days ago one of the officers at the police department I work for was telling me several years ago their was a Delta Air Lines ride at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Does anyone know this for sure, or have any details? |

| Topic: FunFlyer Username: Delta767300ER Posted 2004-03-28 14:55:51 and read 1048 times. NO, Disney World is not in Orlando. Disney World sits about 13-15 miles from downtown Orlando. Disney sits in Osceola County in the city of Lake Buena Vista, where Orlando is in Orange County. |

It was eliminated a few years ago, but DL hadn't anything to do with it for years. It was previously sponsored by EA and named 'If You Had Wings" (different ride, of course). It's now the Buzzlightyear ride. |

I don't remember such a ride in Orlando but on a related airline-sponsored ride theme, does anyone remember the "Tour of the Universe" at the CN Tower in Toronto? It was some cheezy thing where you take a fake elevator supposedley 1500ft down and then get launched on a spaceship to Jupiter. It was actually sponsored by Canadian Airlines and the ride was treated like a CP "flight". |

When you walked in to the entrance, there was a huge Delta cockpit-fuselage part. While you waited in line, they had pictures of some of their nice destinations on the wall. It was great, you'd sit down, it go around on a little track, very fun. The best parts are when you went through the cabin of an old Delta aircraft, and you see a man eating a nice dinner in his seat, another great part is when you'd ascend towards a light that shined at you, it felt as if you were going to heaven! Oh man, I totally forgot about the ride, now I totally remember it! |

IIRC, that Delta fuselage was actually an L-1011 mockup, used in the movie "Passenger 57"...Delta picked it up, painted it in their livery...it now sits in the old Delta hangar at ATL, right near their DC-3 and other museum stuff...full cockpit too! |

I know there was the front end of a Delta fuselage at the MGM Studios on their backlot tour...it was in the building where they have all the costumes. Alas, when I went on it last year (after a 4 year absence), it was gone...it was a wide-body though. |

It was worked by several of the more surely Disney employees, just to give it that real Delta Airlines feel. Often, the ride would be delayed for an hour or so without any explanation. |

Yeah, I remember when it was Eastern's 'If You Had wings' ride in the mid-seventies - it was pretty trippy. Weren't they the official airline of Disneyworld? There was one part where you went through a huge circular room (maybe a 100 feet in diameter) that had a 360-degree movie with birds flying - and at the exit there was a giant (well, seemed at the time) Eastern L-10-11 on the wall. It was part of Tomorrowland, wasn't it? |

That was my favorite ride there (for obvious reasons)...funny how I didn't notice it until we were there in 1996 (and had gone the previous 3 straight years). I thought it was cool, especially how they had a jetway leading you into a "plane" (I always believed that the door on the left at the end of the jetway had a full cockpit) & the part towards the end where you were "sucked" into a jet engine. I also remember a mock-up Delta ticket counter at the end of the ride parallel to the ride's track...something the website didn't mention. Went back in 1998 & the ride was gone...I was disappointed. |

| Topic: RE: Delta Air Lines Ride At Disney? Username: FlyVirgin744 Posted 2004-03-30 05:56:27 and read 838 times. I still remember the song that was played along with the ride. Can't remember the lyrics but I remember the tune perfectly. |
