"It's quite possible that the greatest favor the United States could do for Canada is to declare war on it. No, this isn't a tribute to South Park, the TV cartoon that popularized a song -- "Blame Canada" -- calling for an outright invasion of our northern neighbor. A full-scale conquest is unnecessary; all Canada needs is to be slapped around a little bit, to be treated like a whining kid who's got to start acting like a man."

Well, it's certainly an interesting article.

But that author is crazy. Yeah, let's chuck a few missiles at most of Western Europe too while we're at it, since they're getting so darn anti-American. You know, take out the Eiffel Tower at night when nobody's there - nobody in France will mind that much, will they?  Yeah sure

Does this guy seriously think that bombing Canada and then pretending to be sorry will make them like us any more than they do now?  hypnotized

Mir, I think there's no small amount of tongue-in-cheek sarcasm there. I doubt the author really intends for the U.S. to do that, but I think his point is that, in recent memory, much of what he sees in Canadian existence is simply to be a peaceful anti-American nation, and nothing more.

Makes me wish for the days of Brian Mulroney, who was definitely a friend of the U.S. Cheritan, as the author points out, seems to loathe the U.S.

US/Canadian relations will survive Bush and Cheriten. There will be better days between the two.

I would probably agree with that, however I'd have to argue with him in that the street runs both ways - there's plenty of hatred for/ridicule of Canadians on our side of the border as well. Chretien's "the US deserved what it got" and the hardline republicans' "Canada is communist" (Bush in my opinion has actually been fairly quiet on this issue) haven't helped matters, but there really is no actual animosity between the two. It's what happens between neighboring countries - they are remarkably like people in this regard.

Canada realizes that gays are people, and the US has an actual military. There, I just praised and ridiculed both countries in one sentence. See, not that hard.  Smile

Canada will be Canada, and the US will be the US. Let things be, and deal with the numerous countries in the world who are interested in non-violent anti-Americanism.

Identity crisis? Maybe, I think some Canadians feel we can not identify our selves and that's not true. I think for the most part people are forgetting that we are part of North America and our culture is American. I mean here is an example, France is a European culture its part of Europe, but it has its own flare. Canada is much the same, it has its own flare from the USA but it is much like the USA. I think the author makes some good points about this land to the North, but I think he is missing out on that point and a lot of Canadians are missing out on it too. Our Health care system is crap right now, I love the fact its free but the author does make a good job pointing out that the wait times are crazy, and says that the money invested into health care is poorly spent. I am not going to get involved in the War crap, that is brought up but it is a shame about how we have fallen to number 37 in peace keepers. I think that this was a great Article and I don't think it to be 100% true there are a lot of good points that this bloke has made. I think it had brought to light a few questions and maybe someone in Ottawa might get a good read out of it and try to rectify some of the issues involved. One thing I must disagree with is, he says that Canada is anti American. How so is my question?

Can I get free dinner too Big grin lol, No I just meant in General I doubt that Canada is anti American, I think the for the most part most Canadians will say how much they admire and Respect the USA. I mean, I am just glad to be part of America, IMHO we are living in the best part of the world. We all have our Quirks but I think we need our faults, we can't be perfect. I hope to see a day when Americans and Canadians can work and live in each others countries and not have to worry about visas or Green cards.  Big grin

Before any of you Americans down south start getting any ideas here, let me remind you that we are not helpless in Canada.
Should the United States bomb Canada we will take the following actions:

1. Immediately place an embargo on all exports of Canabis to the US.
2. Recall Celine Dion from Las Vegas.

We do not believe in the use of force, but if you leave us no choice, then we will unleash upon you the mighty Canadian Navy and Airforce.

LH423,

I belive that there are currently two deserters, not draft dodgers, who are seeking asylum in Canada after they fled their units deploying to Iraq.

Hopefully the two of them will be returned to the US to face charges for abandoning their fellow troops.

And I vote they turn them over to their fellow soldiers that they deserted in the line of duty . . .

OK, back on topic - sort of . . .

Prolly right 188, I'd be undergunned on the Russian and the Kenai with that thing. But it would be a hoot . . . could you see the look on their faces if I was to float the Kenai in that! I bet no one casts over my line by God!

L-188,

Do you have an oil well of your own? The converted aircraft engines on these boats really guzzled the fuel!
Concerning the 5 hp 50 cal boat, I assume that the recoil from the MG will push it backward faster than the little motor can push it forward.

Anybody in here ever watched the movie "The Mouse That Roared"?
It is the story of a small, backward and bankrupt European alpine country that decides to attack the US and then surrender, because in the past whenever the US won over another country they helped them financially (the movie was made in the 1950s when the Marshall plan kicked in, I think in Britain). So they send their archers and medieval army out to attack New York city. Unfortunately they stumble right into a lab at a local university, where some professor is working on the "Q-bomb", a weapon mightier than the H-bomb and manage to capture the prototype (looked a lot like a football, American style, with wires on it). As a result the American government surrenders and the government of the smalll state are stuck with all the troubles the Americans have.... hillarious!

Guys, this is pretty scary. I just found this incredible and frightening prophecy written by Nostradamus. This prophecy is rather strange, as it is not written in the usual quatrain mode/style. I guess war, battle, is inevitable between our two nations. 'God' help us.

In trinity and seven after, the two joined nations that are one and same
yet not one and same alas are one and same shall war with each other,
The long free unblemished line shall see bonfires lit, be it from both north and
be it from south. The Eagle of cream crisp and barrels cracked shall rise and fly from its nest, northward to destroy the taunting tooth of buck Beaver, it's fiery clans with ice stick in hands rendered ill with ale.

The northern tribes shall cry out in unison with one letter - a.
Yet alarm and horror shall be visited upon the great bird,
For it knows not the strength nor intent of the Maple mouse
Surrender the garrison of the France songbird, who decieves and resides in the Eagle's nest, and exalts with the Eagle.

Alas, the Beaver shall display its aggression and will victory have,
Its claws extended towards the retreating wings due south.
The Beaver shall laugh and rejoice, ice sticks raised, as the Eagle licks its mortal wounds, feasting in its decaying bush on foul rice.

Wow. Pretty heavy stuff, eh? I....I guess this means Canada wins??

"I know it seems improbable to your divinely guided master in the White House that mere mortals might disagree with participating in a missile-defence system that has failed in its last three tests, even though the tests themselves were carefully rigged to show results."

That's an excerpt of an open letter former Canadian Foreign Minister Lloyd Axworthy recently wrote to Condi Rice. You might want to read the rest of that letter. It only gets better.
