I'm doing a group project on Segregation in Secondary Education for my Black History class.

Does anyone have any info on Bob Jones Univ or Brigham Young Univ? In terms of black vs. white student enrollment? I've looked on their websites and found nothing.

Also if any very segregated schools pop up in your head, let me know.

(This segregated now, not back in the 20's)

We will compare and contast Howard vs. BYU,BJU or any segregated school.

Have you tried the college guide on Princetonreview.com? I remember they give a lot of stats on 4 year unis.

I just did Princeton Reveiw. Pretty good. BYU has 0% black students. BJU has nothing listed and Howard has 0% whites. Good stuff.

Go to each instutions institutional research site, they should have a fact book available online.

AA61 - Interesting thing about BJU is they don't officially keep stats on their enrollment in terms of the racial breakdown of its student body. Al Franken MAY have found some numbers in the chapter he devotes to BYU in "Lies..." but I'm not sure. I do know that the University didn't even allow blacks until 1971. Also, I believe they've been trying to increas black enrollment in the last few years (after the interracial dating ban came to light back in 2000), but they've not had much success. As for BYU, I found some stats here http://www.uscollegesearch.org/brigham_young_university.html and it lists the breakdown as follows:

White non-Hispanic - 89%
Hispanic - 2%
Asian or Pacific Islander - 2%
American Indian or Alaskan Native - 1%
Black non-Hispanic - 0%
Non-resident alien - 0%

Well, the reason that BYU has no black people is Utah has no black people and mormons have no black people  , nothing to do with segregation

I can understand how a school like BYU has no black students - it's a Mormon school and there are no black Mormons and no one besides Mormons wants to go to BYU.

But how exactly does an inner-city, non-religious University end up with no white students?

Maybe it's the same concept. White people feeling left out at a traditionally black college. I'm sure there has to be some whites and asians there but probably an extremely small number to be statistically significant.

Good find on BJU, mdsh00 - I was always under the impression that they didn't even bother to compile the stats since they aren't required to report them.
