Fellow UF Gators, Tell Me Something

Right now, I feel that the defensive coach for UF should have a pink slip in his mailbox Monday morning. For anyone who saw the UF-SC game, the Gator defense just sucked. SC's offensive attempts were not even spectacular, so why couldn't they be stopped?

But anyway, its over, so here are my questions:

1. They say SC broke into the top 25 now, so where will(was #12) FL rank now in the national standings?

2. More importantly, the media is saying that SC broke UF's changes of competing for the SEC. How is that? Right now, GA is up top, but UF and SC have the same records(7-3). The sportscasters after the game yesterday were saying that UF's hopes are gone, but SC needs GA to lose twice to have a shot. Before the game, UF needed GA to lose once. So if GA were to lose twice, it would be a dead heat between all three. GA beat SC, SC beat UF, but UF beat GA, so how would that be determined?

Basically, is UF finished for the season for the SEC, or are there still hopes alive, even if very far off? I love football, but never really understand how they come up with this stuff and put it together. I find it hard that 2 teams with the same records are not neck and neck for a chance at the SEC Championship.

FWIW, see below for info on SEC tie-breakers but it doesn't matter, Georgia will kick Kentucky's ass. Very likely LSU will be the other team in the championship at this point but Alabama and Auburn have a better shot at this than SC does in the East.

The answers are at secsports.com:

http://www.secsports.com/index.php?s...rl_subchannel_id=&change_well_id=2

Tie Breaker Scenarios

EASTERN DIVISION
Georgia (5-2) can clinch a berth in the SEC Championship Game as the Eastern Division Champion with a win against Kentucky on Nov. 19. Should Georgia lose against Kentucky, it would force a three-way tie at 5-3 between Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. In that scenario, each team split 1-1 amongst the tied teams. Against Eastern Division teams, Florida and South Carolina would be 4-1 and Georgia would be 3-2. In this tie-breaker, Georgia would be eliminated and South Carolina would earn the right to represent the Eastern Division with its 30-22 win over Florida on Nov. 12.

WESTERN DIVISION
LSU is the only team to control its own destiny to win the Western Division. If it defeats Ole Miss on Nov. 19 and Arkansas on Nov. 25, it will play in the SEC Championship Game as the Western Division representative. If LSU should falter in one of those games, the winner of the Alabama-Auburn game on Nov. 19 would become the Western Division representative.

I was at the game. Tough one to watch. A lot of things I thought Meyer was gonna clean up from the Zook era still exist. It almost seems like we've been a different team since the Alabama loss. Meyer looks like he stopped caring because Alabama just blew the shorts off the team. Look at the Vandy and Cock games, we just weren't prepared. We were still putting guys in motion when we were in a hurry...awful clock management.

Anyways, Meyer did not know the SEC at the beginning of this year and obviously he could not change the whole style of the team during the season. Therefore next year I look foward to great things....and hopefully an offensive line that doesn't jump offsides.

Florida will be around number 18 with SC just above them at 17. Florida State will be around 22.

I find it unacceptable that with 3 minutes left in the game our guys are walking back to the huddle, we get a delay of game penalty and avoid a second one by buring a TO.

Florida hasn't played a full game with any intensity this year.

Most disappointing was Urban's reaction on the Sunday morning show. We've got a long way to go before we can consider ourselves a national contender again.

All that being said, it's still great to be a Florida Gator and if we have to lose, who better than the olde ball coach.

I hope Ga looses to Kentucky and SC wins the East.

When did I ever say I attended college? I had no idea to be a fan of a college team one had to attend said university. Damn, there goes college team support all across the country.  Yeah sure

I find it ironic that the guys who talk the most smack are the ones least likely to have ever attended.

Actually I went in the military as opposed to college. Sorry. Should I give you shit when you talk about the government or war because you never threw on a uniform and served your country? And before you mention how ridiculous that sounds...it sounds the same as your take. I'm talking shit about sports. About the football team NOT the university. Here, here is a fresh box because you seem to be out. Who knew 3 losses would get your panties all bunched up.

First of all, you'll never see me post about anything related to a service man or woman. I always back the decision of the person on the ground and find it embarrasing that our nation would second guess the decision of a soldier without ever giving them the benefit of the doubt. I would never presume to be able to comment on what they go through never having gone through it myself. I am deeply thankful for your service and that of all the other men and women who have worn the uniform of our armed services.

Secondly, you're the one with your panties in a wad. I just pointed out that the biggest "shit" talkers are the ones who never attended the university nor the university's rival.

Third of all, I don't believe that absence of military service precludes me from commenting about the government. Last time I check, our government was led by civilians.

It's not just 3 losses to the Gaytor fans though, KROC. One of those losses was to...*gasp* South Carolina! Didn't Spurrier get the memo that this was supposed to be the Steve Spurrier Humbling Tour? Didn't Spurrier get the memo that USC has no place running with the traditional East Division "big dogs" and that South Carolina's place is as the middle man between the big dogs and the doormats of Kentucky and Vandy? Didn't the Gamecocks understand that their 66-year stretch of no wins against Florida was supposed to go on ad infinitum?  sarcastic

I have but one thing to say: Chew on it for a season, Florida. The Gamecocks aren't pushovers anymore

You are still sounding ridiculous. I guess everyone in the stands at a UF home game is a student or Alumni right? When talking sports who gives a crap if the person did or did not go to that school. Should I not root for the Mets or against the Yankees because I never played baseball for either team? Yeah, one again...ridiculous.

Carefult GP. You did not attend UF so according to Pope you cannot talk shit about them.  Yeah sure

Again, you're attributing something to me which I didn't say. You certainly have the right to talk shit about UF or any other college. I simply pointed out that the biggest shit talker are the one with the least connection to the event.

You then turned that into a quasi-political matter that defies all common sense.

GP as I said above, I happy for Coach Spurrier. If we had to lose, I'm glad we lost to him. But don't get too cocky. One game does not a legend make. Remember all the smack UGA fans were talking a couple of years ago and they still can't consistently beat UF. GA is Florida's bitch, UT is one level below that. Perhaps the SC-UF rivalry will surpass these other ones in the near future.

The least connection? I am a sports fan. I love college football. I like the Miami Hurricanes and I have liked them long before I knew anything about college football (I'm a weather geek that liked hurricanes as a kid). As a sports fan, its tradition to talk shit. You seem to imply that shit talking is one thing from alumni or students but when non-attendees partake its not hte same good natured sports ribbing. What you imply would have to eliminate all shit talking from sports (major) since none of us will be in the NFL, MLB, NHL or NBA anytime soon.

It is tough to talk trash to us Gators on here. After the losses to Bama and almost loss to Vandy, we clearly know we are not a championship caliber team, therefore SC beating us is not near as hard on us as you wish it was. Plus we still have more important things to worry about, like UGA, western SEC rival LSU, and ofcourse season-ending FSU.

Unfortunately that loss to USC means any hope of seeing "western SEC rival LSU" a second time this season is out the window.

Our defense has been weak this whole year. weak teams don't count.
Chris Leak has been unsure of himself, and too inconsistant.
I look forward to the next two years with a more mature defense and offense.
That being said, I am going to be in florida for the FSU game and would like to take my wife to her first game at the Swamp, so although I may scalp the day of the game, if anyone has some good leads let me know.

The sportscasters said it best during the game. When his passes are good, they are perfect. The only problem with that is that he may become too focused on being perfect and less focused on just getting the ball where it needs to go period.

Ah, I see. AND ITS FRIGGIN BULL IF YOU ASK ME!!!! But rules are rules, and I think they need to be re-written quickly. I say that if you have a tie, all 2 or 3 teams have another match off to break the tie. Us football fans would love nothing more than the best 2 out of 3, kinda like the World Series. Thanks BHMBAGLOCK!!!

In principal I agree but only if we can do something manly to break the tie. If we follow the "logic" of the current BS OT rules we'd play a tie-breaker playoff game with 2 minute quarters or some such.

The new system reminds me of a soccer or hockey shoot-out. I have nothing against this method for those games, it works in that context but not for football which is a very different game.
