Well, yesterday I had my first Thanksgiving dinner with the NYC-based part of my family. I have to say that I never realized how this day is important to the nation here.

The turkey was good and I feel that I won't be eating anything for the next couple of days  Smile

Was it your first time eating turkey? By the way are you living in the US now?

I know what you mean...my first Thanksgiving in the States I was amazed at how big a deal it is. When I found out that the grocery store nearest to us was open on Christmas but closed for Thanksgiving, I was horrified. It's very different from Thanksgiving in Canada!

But that was when I ruled the world

Yeah it's a big deal. More people travel and more people take time off work on Thanksgiving than any other day.

It's such a great holiday. Only a few times a year do you get to sample the assortment of Thanksgiving foods. Ahh... greatness...

i think it is bigger than all other holidays simply because it is a holiday ALL americans are invested in.

obviously not all americans celebrate christmas, hannukkah, easter, or any other demonitaional holidays. thanksgiving is a holiday intended for everyone, thus a bigger deal IMHO.

I agree. Plus it's not so commercialized like Christmas has become. Thanksgiving is really a holiday you can spend time with your family and just enjoy good 'ol fashion cookin'  Smile

No  Smile, just the first time when eating turkey had an extra meaning.

On and off , but I can be relocating permanently soon.

Smile I left those at my uncle's house.

To my embarrassment I didn't know that it is celebrated in Canada  Wink
