1 of 2 black boxes from Flight 93 was recovered, but i was thinking, why is the FDR(Flight Data Recorder) and the CVR (Cockpit Voice Recorder) arent in one box?
It would certainly make recovery operations faster.

I have always wondered why they make these boxes so frail. The outer casing by the looks of it is aluminum and only about 1cm thick. Why not make it 4 inches thick and out of depleated uranium? It would be virtually indistructeble without adding too much weight.
On the other hand I suppose it might turn into a cannonball in case of a crash and fly through the plane causing even more damage......but I think its a fair trade-off.

The separation of the FDR and CVR increase the likelihood that at least one piece of recording equipment will be found at a crash site. In other words, if the FDR and CVR were in the same compartment, it would be more probable for them both to be destroyed if one was already.
