A 49 year old man collided with a kangaroo near Oosterwolde on Saturday. According the police, the animal didn't survived the crash. It's also unclear where the animal comes from.
The police takes into consideration that a small amount of kangaroos maybe living in the wild near Appelscha. Some years ago at least one kangaroo escaped with someone who was keeping them as pets.
It's the thought that the kangaroos mated with each other. According to the police this was the third collision in three years.
The accident occurred around 17.00 hrs on the road between Makkinga and Oosterwolde. The animal was sitting on the road when the van cought it between the headlights. The driver couldn't avoid the animal. The van was slightly damaged, the kangaroo was disposed by a local vet.
"Skippy"...... "Skippy"...... "Skippy?"..... "Skippy, where are you?".......

That's not totally unusual, what is unusual is that here in Parker, Colorado in the back areas of my neighborhood there seems to be established a breeding population of Peacock and Peahen. Oddly enough, they've been here a few years now and have managed to survive the winters.

Umm... come live in Australia. Go out onto country roads and you'll see numerous Kangaroo's by the side of the road which have been hit by cars or trucks. But I suppose, in the Netherlands, this would be a bizzare accident.
