Northern Lights In The UK Now!

Just looking to the North West from my house near Chesterfield, we're getting a great view (if obscured by cloud) of a huge green glow in the sky that's getting darker and brighter! I've never seen Aurora Borealis but this is exactly like the photos/video I have seen!

It's quite cloudy but I'm trying to get some photos! Anyone else in this part of the world or further north in the UK got any good views tonight?

Cheers,
Noel.

We get it sometimes here on the West coast of Scotland - usually at least once or twice a year.

No sign at the moment though, but it's completely overcast above my house.

Statistically, people who have had the most birthdays tend to live the longest.

Ahhh congrats. Living in Alaska I am treated to the northern light shows often but still after living here all my life I am always impressed with them. I hope you get a good show and can possibly share some pics.

Certainly not - the nearest town is about 20 miles that way!

Here's some pics:

To give you an indication, these are taken with the minimum lens (25mm) on my camera, and what you can't see is they get very bright and then very dark, at on average 2-3 second intervals!

Here is a map showing the area we're looking at:

It's gone overcast now so it's faded a lot now, but there's like a very faint green glow covering about half the sky (presumable refracting off the clouds?)

Noel

Edited to add map

Hmm Im not sure those are the Aurora. My experience with them is that they are higher in the sky and never that close to the horizon especially with artificial lights that close to it. But the difference in latitude from AK to the Uk may explain this. Nice pics regardless and enjoy the show.
