IMO the advertising of the entire diamond industry is overall pretty ingenious, but I think some of these diamond commercials are pathetic.
There's one commercial where a wife tells her husband off because such-and-such got HER diamond from XX, and he didn't...retarded.

Not to mention that until the 1900s, diamonds were not all that rare or valuable, until the deBeers Corporation managed to convince everyone that one cannot get married without a diamond. Congratulations, deBeers; shame on everyone else.

Regarding the Lexus - I have one (8 yr old). It's a great commuter car but the design/performance shortcomings are very apparent when compared to the German competition (IMO). My experience comes from a wide variety of Lexus/BMW/Audi cars over a variety of time periods.

Luxury cars are a nice last minute gift, especially when the gifter has paid cash. It's been going on for eons, and there's no reason for Lexus not to capitalize on this market.
Think about it, if people didn't do things like that (and they certainly do), Lexus wouldn't waste their money advertising to compete for those dollars.

The analagous steroid would probably be Prednisone - My ES300 is just heavier and softer than a Camry!
I was given this stuff by a booger-eating doctor while a student at Penn State (2 years ago). It did nothing for the incapacitating headaches I sought treatment for. What it did do was take me from a fit 21 year old to an out of shape 21 year old in 2 weeks. I gained 20+ pounds in 14 days due to this stuff!
Needless to say I dislike my Lexus and that doctor!
