NH (Amsterdam) Schiphol Hotel - What To Expect?

So, my mother is off to Africa in two weeks, and because of (KLM) connecting times she will have to spend a night in Amsterdam. Thus she asked me to look out for hotels by the Airport.

After reading the different threads about A.net meetings in Amsterdam, I came to think about NH Schiphol Hotel, which, by the way, is also the cheapest at € 79.00 per night.

Any A.netter(s) who could tell me how is the NH Schiphol Hotel, and if it's worth to spend a night there rather than in downtown Amsterdam?

Thanks in advance.

Saludos,
Marambio

Stayed the night there when my flight from CGN forced me to miss my connection to DTW. Quite nice really, and KL picked up the tab  Silly. If she wants a hotel by the airport, NH is the way to go. But there's not much around, and if she wants to go into town for the night, cab rides are not cheap.
The hotel is a bit "older" but has a nice resteraunt and bar. Rooms are standard, but no alarm clocks. The "alarm clock" is on the TV, and is fucking loud... kinda sucks with a hangover...

Yeah, I figured out that, too. After looking at all hotels' websites in Schiphol, NH looks like the best hotel on its price range. Both the Radisson and the Sheraton seem to be nice, but they're about € 130 per night each.

What do you mean by "older"? Is it rundown, crappy or just could be better?

I sincerely hope my mother will not have to cope with a hangover. However, if she does, it's nice to know she won't miss her flight thanks to the TV alarm.  Silly

Nothing to worry about, by "older" I meant it's was built some yrs back. But it has been maintained nicely.

Visiting the city requires not taxi, there is a shuttle service to AMS and from there you can take a (night) train to Amsterdam.

For the sights this may not be great, but it is only 25 or 30 minutes walk from the Kaagbaan spot. Touchdown/rotation right in front of you.

Hi there,

Hotel is definitely adequate. Spent two nights there in 2004 and it was fine. They offer a free shuttle to and from the airport so that is also quite useful. With rock bottom prices like that it's too irresistible, enjoy your stay.

Cheers,
Justin  Smile

Hi Marambio

Yep. The NH is the best to stay at. I think most of the anetters that have stayed there can say that as well and on a personal note having stayed there myself, out of all the NH hotels I have stayed at so far, this one has been the best.
Glad you booked it.
