This sounds terribble. More people are trapped... I hope they get them out as soon as possible. It happened in Bad Reichenhall.

Saw this on the evening news here tonight - an indoor skating rink - said most of the victims are children.  Sad

Not good news of course. I hope they find more survivors than victims.

Any A-Netters in that area with details?

A late report on MSNBC.com here in the USA said it is 11 dead. Any idea of what caused the collaspe? Bad design? Heavy snow/ice? Bad drainage of roof?

Man that's really bad. I don't want to picture this but I can't help it, working at an ice rink myself. This must have been horrible.

Quoting LTBEWR (Reply 2):
Heavy snow/ice?

Flat roof, heavy snow . . . bad combination.

Tragic - and probably avoidable. Sad

From what I've heard so far it was a combination of an aging 1970s construction and heavy wet snow fall. They checked the snow load a few hours before but still deemed it safe until they would have had started clearing the snow away later...

The question is why they cancelled a training session that would have been held later but didn't evacuate. We'll probably know more soon.

It's kind of strange for me, I worked for a summer at the Steigenberger Hotel in Bad Reichenhall in the mid-80's.
