He was also in a "not so funny" comedy called Men With Brooms.
Incidentally, a friend of a friend also appeared in the movie and was in a scene where he was humping someone over a desk....Not exactly what we were expecting as we all sat down to watch his "performance".

He started off as the romantic lead in "Tammy and the Bachelor" with Debbie Reynolds back in the 1960s. It was very popular. I can't watch any old Leslie Neilsen film without laughing at him, because they all look like he was perfecting the "Airplane" role, even as the Captain of the Poseidon!

He guest starred in several episodes of "The Streets of San Francisco" back in the 70's (starring Karl Malden and a very young Michael Douglas). I heard an interview of him once where he said he basically plays his current comedy roles the exact same way as his earlier serious one. The only difference is in context and timing that makes it funny.
Outside of "Airplane!", the "Naked Gun" series and "Police Squad" (one of the funniest TV shows ever), "Wrongfully Accused" was a pretty good spoof of "The Fugitive" ("It wasn't me - It was the one-eyed, one-armed, one-legged man!"). Richard Crenna also plays a funny-as-hell spoof on Tommy Lee Jones' character as the lead US Marshall chasing him.
DAMN! This SUCKS! I just had to go to the next higher age bracket in my profile! :-(
