Anyone know why the swimmers always drink the pool water before they mount and dive in?

I'm pretty sure you've got it, Iflycoach.
Drinking the water would make anyone feel nauseated because of the chlorine. It would be detrimental to one's performance to do so.

To make sure no swimmer urinates in the pool each swimmer has to drink the water.

I just watched a women take water to her a face, and then spit it out, so at least some to "taste" the water.

I was just wondering that and a few of my friends commented on the same thing.

I guess that NBC shoots the swimmer and we see him/her take a handful of water and then put it to their face before it fades into a "feel good about Australia, because it isn't the USA," clip. It looked, to me at least, like (s)he was drinking the water.

CstarU.......  That´s why I avoid public Bathhouses like plague, since they don´t have this rule.
