If you are in marching band, and you had a game, post a summary or something interesting that happened.

Week 3, game 2 (last weeks game was postponed/cancelled due to the 11th)-

Jackson Jags-49
Marlboro Mustangs-0 (us)

They won the state last year, we won 1 game last year.
Their band plays 7 days a week, our band outplayed them.
The band football game during the 3rd quarter was the only game Marlboro won in a very long time. of course, it was marlboro vs marlboro.
The football team was miserable. The band had one heck of a time. I wouldn't trade marching band for a $50 bill.

As usual, we had a singalong on the bus, and i now realize why some people play instruments  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

tonight, Weeling HS Chicagoland Marching Contest, class AA (83 members), we got no awards due to timing penalty (only five minutes played). I was probably among the most projecting trumpets there, though.

Boring as hell...and the director complained that we didn't play. Bah. We never had any reason to. :p

Friday: We drove 40 minutes to Northwestern HS only to get changed, get our stuff, march to the stands and then leave. It started raining. So we got to sit in the busses for an hour, in uniform, sweating, and smelling. That sucked.

Saturday: We went to 2 competitions. We won the one because we were the only open class band there (75 people and above, we have about 135) Then the same judges SCREWED us over at the last one. We played better, but for some reason, the idiots gave us a lower scrore. My band has never lost like that before...we only lost one competitions last year. The judges got yelled at my our entire staff....haha.

This season has sucked. Football, we have only made it to one game cause it has been pouring rain like no other on Fridays. The team lost. It was their 21st loss in 3 seasons. We have the worst team in three states.

Last weekend was Roger Bacon Invitational. We got 1st, Best Visual Effect, Best Music Efct, Best GE, Best Field Commander, all in Class A. We are small(29+10Guard), but we still rock.

I see other bands sing on the bus too. Do you all sing "Stand by Me", or maybe "Friends in Low Places"?

We had our first competition this year last Saturday at Herndon Showcase of Bands. We were the first school to perform at 1:15pm as Class A. We are a very small band with a bit over 30 people. (18 winds, 10 percussion including pit, and 4 color guards, and 2 drum majorettes.) We were competing with 7 other high schools in our class which made it more interesting. Usually we compete with 2-3 other bands. We were a Class AA last year with over 50 people and we were suppose to have over 70 this year but half of them quit. (Mostly freshmens)
I am the trumpet captain in my band. We only have 3 trumpets both are females so that makes me the only guy.  Big grin But we produce good, briliant, loud sound for just the 3 of us. Couple years ago in Class A, we were the only band in that division and won all 1st place in each category and Class A division.

We won our first game on Friday and it was a home game too. We always sing on the bus and sometimes you'll need earplugs. hehe.

BTW, this year we are playing "Jesus Christ Superstar", (featuring my trumpet solo at the end of the peice) "Pinball Wizard", (featuring my trumpet solo in the beginning, as well as a trombone and a bass guitur solo a measure after mine) and "Hi-De-Ho."

Good luck to all.

Kevin/DCA

I was in Marching Band in High School.
Long time ago.
Pasadena High School, 1988-90.
It was neat because I played electric bass guitar.
I stood on the side lines (pit) with the tympani, concert bass drum and other instruments too large to march with. We won many competitions.

Our band: Zionsville Comm. HS

We did three compotitions and the only awards we got were participitation. lol.

I play snare drum/vibes and my band is about the size of meister808's. We are in class B.

1. Triton Central Invitaional: 49.15 overall

2. Lawrence Central Invitaonal: 49.1

3. Plainfield Invitaonal: 54

This last compitition was better than our previous ones. I was pleased of how we did. Our show is music from "Miss Saigon".

"Heat is on in Saigon"
"Sun and Moon"
"The fall of saigon (Kim's nightmeare)"

I go to L.D. Bell High School. We have 225+ in our band but we haven't gone to any competitions yet. Our first competition is BOA San Antonio in a little less than 2 weeks. Our 3 football game performances have gone well though (even though our football team's sorry).
