Hi there, I got a slight problem with my computer that I hope someone on here might be able to help me with. I consider myself computer literate but I can't figure this one out. It's not major problem but one that really annoys me My problem is with downloading from webpages. Before I used to download stuff and I would get a dialogue box pop that asked me if I wanted to save and then it would ask me to choose where to save the file I am downloading. However, now when I click on something to download it automatically starts downloading to a temporary files folder without even asking me. I hate this because I want to download files to certain specific folders but cant now. When I search for "temporary files" folder using FIND in windows nothing shows up that has the files I downloaded. It's really annoying me. So, does anyone out there know how to get it back to where it prompts me to choose where to save files before downloading?? I've looked everywhere, from all the settings in my Internet Explorer to my Control Panel Settings, all to no avail I hope someone out there might be able to help me.....Thanks in advance

The following link is to an excellent Microsoft Help forum. Try posting your problem there, they have some very knowledgable people who I think will be to help you, unless anyone on A.net knows the answer.

The only thing you have to do is, if you are usign Microsoft Explorer:
1. Right Click on the link
2. A menu will appear
3. Press "Save Target As"
4. The box will appear if you what to open it or save it to another place.
If you didn't know, everything that you download from the Web, is place on the folder "Temporary Internet Files" on the "windows" folder, then it copies it to the folder you select to download it.

hey Juan, thanks for your help. I see how I can avoid the automatic download to by right clicking on the mouse and choosing "save target as" and it opens up the box where I get to choose where to sav the file. However, any idea how I can get it go back to doing that when I just click on the link to "download" a particular. I used to have it like that but one time I was downloading something and some weird prompts came up and I either accidentally checked off a box or failed to check one off and now it always automatically DLs to the temp folder. Thanks for your help so far though...

Yes, Mtv has some great videos, but if you do the same thing what i told before, you will only save the Shortcut to their website, maybe if you watch all the video then go find it at c:\windows\temporary Internet files.

I don't know, maybe if you re-installed the Internet Explorer.
