What would you guys suggest is a way to start in terms of ways I can make money using my website (in terms of putting ads in the actual website html itself, not popup or popunder ads)?

Hi Steve,
Ive tried various different forms of ads, and google adsense is by far the best. I used commision junction, whereby you get paid for every purchase through the ads, such as Air France, where you get 5% commission etc, but found I was making nothing! Google on the other hand pays per click on the ads, and I found I was making a steady stream of income.
However how well it works depends on the number of hits you are recieving. If your website is fairly queit then you will struggle to make anything.
Anyway, I would suggest google adsense, go to google and select "advertising programs" at he bottom of the page. theres no fees or obligations, if it doesnt work out you loose nothing. You will recieve your first cheque when your balance reaches $100.

Adsense is a fun way to get started. It's easy too. You simply choose the keywords you want your ad to appear under, and your marketing budget as a cap. You only spend what you want. Once you have spent the aount of money that you have chosen, the ad will now longer show up on web pages.
Also, it's a good idea to just contact webmasters and have them ad a simple link to your site. Remember, the more links you have pointing to your web site from other reputable sites, the better you will do in your search engine results.
Also, look into a website search engine optimization book, natural search traffic from MSN, AskJeeves, Yahoo and Google allow you to get cheap and qualified prospects to your site.
