Here I am on my desktop as my laptop is still recovering from my mistake to have a look at the super thread. It caused almost every appliaction to go into "not responding" and shut down.
So my feeling is that its time for the super thread to be archived

Nah, keep it active. Your machine probably would have crashed on its own. There is no logic reason why a very long string of html would crash your computer more than a halfway large software would have.

Well good....I thought I was the only one! The moment my computer started showing indications of going into cardiac arrest I shut the little fellow down.

Quoting Rlwynn (Reply 5): I am a visitor at the Car and Driver forum and the super thread there is now up to 221,904 posts.
I bet that has pages though. That way only a certain number of replies are shown at a time..
I agree that the thread should be locked. It serves no useful purpose except to waste bandwidth and lock up computers.

Peronally i couldn't be bothered spending my entire afternoon rebuilding my machine with a new browser just to open that thread.
What slowed that thread down is the pictures and some of the posts are 5 feet long. Don't know why some did that, it was just to get the amount of replies to 2006. All you have to do is say a few words per post.
Cheers.

The superthread sucked up a large amount of bandwidth on our 100mbps connection at work and slowed the whole network to a crawl until I unplugged the computer after the thread crashed the entire thing, brand new top of the line computer too.
Is it weird I have a RemoveBeforeFlight pitot cover on my car rear view mirror?

Same here, scared the hell out of me because I was at work at the time.
I went into task manager and killed the IE process which was at 99%.

Quoting Klaus (Reply 18): No problem here with Safari under MacOS X over a conventional DSL line. The problem is just that that thread is pointless and boring...!
Yeah Im on the same, (with a G5) and I have no problem, I don't know if the same can be said for the servers though.

The servers are Linux PCs as far as I know; They'll do fine if the memory limits aren't set too tight, but the thread will have to compete with a.net photos for bandwith...

34 JeffSFO: Same here. For me, Opera did a much better job reading the Super Thread than Firefox did. Firefox not only took ages to load the page, it used up 10
