Hi guys!

Just to let you know: Here in Germany, we can let block our already stolen mobile phones afterwards by the provider. But for that, they need the serial number of the mobile phone.
If you press: *#06# you might get to see the serial number of your mobile. Write it down...
In case your mobile got stolen, the provider is able to block the mobile complete! A further use will be impossible!

Does that work in your country as well???
Maybe that works only for German registered mobiles... Give it a try anyway.

Regards,
Patrick

As long as it's not stolen I wouldn't give it a try!

Here we call our provider, give them our phone number and...viola, the phone is disabled. Don't need the ESN.

Glidepath73 is talking about the mobile phone (hardware), not the sim card.

In the UK once a phone is reported stolen, the serial number is blacklisted forever and the handset will be unable to get a signal on any network.

I know that.

A few years ago, a few friends and I found a (switched on) mobile phone on the parking lot of a discotheque. We sent a few unfriendly SMS to everyone who's name was saved in the phone book function, since the phone still worked on the next day we could even reply to the SMS we got as an answer to them we sent out earlier, it was fun as hell. Big grin

On the second day didn't the whole phone work anymore.  Sad

You have a very odd, slightly disturbing and childish idea of fun. I'm sure whoever owned the phone REALLY appreciated you doing that.

I know.

But what would you do when you would find a working mobile phone at 4 AM together with friends after all of you got trashed with intoxicant substances?

The phone apparently belonged to a girl called Ivonne and I am sure that she had to explain a lot of things to her friends and parents. Big grin

Does mean?

.... look around for someone who is searching for a mobile phone?

.... bring it to the next police station?

.... call the police?

.... call the mobile phone provider hotline to ask for the address of the owner to deliver it to her home?

.... sell it to a Turk for 100 EUR?

I'm assuming you're familliar with the term 'common sense'? What constitutes common sense I know is open to interpretation, although I imagine for the vast majority of the intelligent adult population of this planet sending 'unfriendly' text messages to people you don't know, from a phone that isn't yours, is definately NOT using common sense.

You see my point?

No, because of:

Alcohol is your excuse? That's almost as ignorant as sending the messages in the first place. If you can't drink without doing stupid things, and even worse, acting like you're proud of it, try sticking to Coke.

No, Coke makes you stay awake for too long and it is not good for your nose when you use it frequently.

And to think this guy is moderator here...  Silly

Anyway, back to the main topic : *#06# will give you the IMEI number for the cellphone, it is a standard GSM/UMTS feature.
It is free and harmless, you should indeed do it and write it down so that the bastard who stole your phone cannot use it or sell it...

... until he changes the IMEI number of the aforementioned phone and sells it.

Better solution : have a non standard cellphone with a difficult/next to impossible to find battery charger. The fool who steals my cellphone should have what ? 50 minutes available ?

Cheers,

707

I'm actling like I'm two, yet you've done the same thing as Patrick? I love irony!

Thankyou! My point exactly! How about quitting the 'I was drunk/stoned' nonsense and thinking about the poor girl who has to explain to her friends/relatives/colleagues why they received nasty texts. In fact, how about having the intelligence to not do stuff like that in the first place.

I've seen far too many people use that excuse for doing stupid things and it gets a little tiring after a while. If you want to get wankered that's fine. I'm usually wankered 3 or 4 nights a week, but that doesn't affect anyone else, and nor should it. I don't understand why some find this so difficult to understand. I guess it goes back to the common sense thing I mentioned earlier...

Paul

I did it when I was sober. :p

Some poor sod left their IM password saved on a computer in the business center of my hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica so I went on and messaged a few of friends.
