So here is the new A6 flagship (at least until the RS6).

A bit disappointed as it looks really understated compared to the last one.

The LED lights look cool though.

However the S8 does look very nice indeed - hasn't this got the same v10 engine as in the S8 and the Gallardo?

The engine for the S6 and S8 is a different V10 engine - AUDI made an all-new one for their cars. Still, it must be a good marketing tool, having people think they could have a Lambo engine instead of that 2 liter diesel that is all the company car plan allowed.

Read this very carefully, I shall write this only once!

It looks very nice! However; I have always thought that Audi looks a bit anonymous compared to BMW and Mercedes.

I think this one looks brilliant.

Understated is the best way. Don't wanna look like a chav in a Subaru Imprezza!

Audi have really picked it up over the last few years in terms of style and reliability.

I've always been a BMW guy followed closely by Mercedes, but, i must say, if i were in the market for a higher end machine, i think my first stop would be to a Audi dealership.

The movie, Transposter 2 puts a nice light to Audi showcasing an always shiny machine.  Wink

as you can probably guess, I am a pro-Mercedes-Benz fan. I really like their new SLK, the CLS, the new S-class and the SL is a very beautiful car!

I think Audi have done really well in producing understated, elegant cars. The A8 and especially the S8 are just wonderful...

The S8 has the same V10 but it has less Horsepower than the Gallardo.... 444 instead of 500. I believe it has been bored out a little bit too to up the displacement...i'm not 100 percent sure about that though.

I think the new S8 looks gorgeous. But neither it nor the S6 will have anything on the BMW M5.

I think the S6 oozes refinement from every hinge. It'll have a better interior than the M5, even though the M5 doesn't look bad on the outside. I think it looks great and will appeal to people who have the big incomes who can actually drive one. Sort of like what BMW could be if they didn't suffer from the Bangle Disease.

No criticism of either poster here; I just find it a bit odd that the ultra-expensive Audi is accoladed for being 'understated' yet the rather similar looking mass-market Ford Five Hundred sedan is usually referred to as 'bland' or 'boring'. Though they play in vastly different markets, they are similarly sized large sedans with a rather same look about them. Does the Audi's extra brand panache, performance and handling, not to mention vastly higher price cause folks to overlook its rather anonymous (except for the garish front end) overall look? For this price I'd want my car to stand out and while I consider Audis to be better than BMWs in many ways (after reading numerous comparisons), big BMWs do have lots of presense, something Audi's lack in comparison. A little more flair wouldn't hurt in this high-end market, Audi.

I agree. Has a bit of a Skoda-ish look off it.

The Germans are renowned for being efficient and good at what they do, not necessarily having too much style (their football team has, in the past few years, got good results but been very boring to watch).

I guess that's what can be said about Audi. Audi have never had much style in the same way as, say, Alfa Romeos have. They're good cars, but not beautiful cars. Personally I like the understated look as I know that it's a good car and I don't need a statement saying 'look, here I am, look at my car' in a Mitsubishi Evo kinda way.

Where Audi does trump the oppposition though is not exterior looks (always subjective), nor in the drive (BMW - although the new RS4 is a big step in the right direction), but in interior quality.

Read any respected motoring magazine and they will invariably tell you that Audi's interiors are the best in the business right now - classy, elegant, not gimmickly, function superbly well (BMW has been heavily criticised for i.Drive - Audi has got praise for making theirs easy to use) and for sheer quality of fit and finish. It is now well ahead of both BMW and Mercedes on that score - both of whom have been said to have cut costs and interior quality has suffered.

I have an A3 - now the smallest Audi and the interior quality is better than many so-called prestige cars twice the price. It really is superb and 100% the best thing about the car. After a long day at work and having to drive home in the dark and rain at this time of year, I climb into the car and realise just how lucky i am.

A close friend has a C-Class Merc and the interior is noticeably cheaper than the audi - something even he admits.

Thats the sort of thing that makes you realise you have a quality car - not its exterior styling.
