I know atleast a few U.S. newspapers have been reporting on this so I am curious to know if it is creating much buzz in the U.S.A.. Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada are a head by a considerable margin in the polls and as of now it looks as if they will form the next minority government of Canada and Harper will be the next PM. Is this big news in conservative circles in the states? Are people happy that Canadians are going to be saved from those evil liberals after 13 years?   *note the sarcasm* . Or is it going relatively unnoticed?

Thanks all!

Tell you the truth the only thing I've seen or heard about this is right here in this forum.

I've missed the evening news a couple of times in the past week though. Maybe there was something.

I'm not sure but I think the place has something to do with NAFTA and cheap drugs.

I've heard a little bit about it while listening to some of the news chanels on XM, but it is certainly not in any of the mainstream media that I keep track of down here in Texas.

I think you missed Doug and Bob's point. Look at a U.S. version of a map of North America. With the exception of Alaska, anything north of the 49th parallel is portrayed as a big blank (white) space. I used to work on the alaska highway in Canada, would run into tourists who thought Anchorage was a 1 hr drive from Seattle, because of these maps. Bottom line, to most Americans, Canada does not exist.

LOL... that is hillarious! It reminds me of that show Rick Mercer did called "Talking to Americans".

I would not expect the US media to cover our election very much though, because it does not concern them as much as their election concerned us. I bet there are many Americans that do not even know Canada is having elections right now.

Most Americans couldn't locate Chicago on a map, so how do you think they will locate Toronto or even know it exists?

Having said that, the Canadian election is getting almost no TV time down here in the U.S.

If any U.S. conservatives are hoping that a Canadian "Reagan" exists, they are strongly mistaken. Canadian society is mostly secular and liberal, and its politics are more western European in nature. Hence, the Canadian Conservative party isn't suddenly going to win and have a lovefest with George W.

Actually Alaska on those maps is protrayed as an island off the coast of Southern California.

Not according to the latest Liberal Party television ads. (This is about the only media coverage the elections have garnered in the USA.)

I had to laugh at the most recent ads, telling the Canadian voters that "George W. will be the one smiling if the Conservatives win" (rough quote).

I'm somewhat sure that GW is like most USA citizens and only vaguely aware (if at all) that there are even elections in the offing.

If this is all the Liberal Party has to offer, then they deserve to lose the election.
