Sven has blamed the tabloid press for his demise as England football manager.
Nothing to do with the fact he couldn't keep it in his trousers then?
Nor the fact he accepted an alleged free trip to Dubai.

What revelations did we learn? That Wayne Rooney came from a poor home and that Michael Owen only went to Newcastle for the cash. Shock horror! If England did win the World Cup then the Sun would be calling him a hero and begging him to stay on!  Angry

you missed the point.

Sven apparently agreed to this leaving deal before all this blew up. It's no secret he's been pissed off at Mirror, Star and Scum intrusion into his private life for some time now. As he took the highest profile football job in the country that invented this kind of tabloid journalism, he's only really got himself to blame for being naive.

To be honest, I wouldn't like it either if every time I had a dodgy shag it ended up on the front page of the Scum. But seeing as it's so bloody infrequent it probably would!

But you're not in a very high profile job

Which the FA knew about.

So he went to Dubai? So what? If someone offers you the same are you going to turn it down? All we've heard recently is how if England flopped at the World Cup he'd have been sacked. So, let me ask you a question: The same thing is rumoured around you and you aren't going to listen to anyone who might offer you a job?

I don't get the whole righteous anger about the fact that Eriksson might listen to other offers anyway. Of course he's a mercenary! He was when he first spoke to the FA when managing Lazio! He's a professional coach who goes where the best offer is. If he wasn't he'd have been managing Sweden these last five years.

Anyone who slags off Eriksson for listening to any possibility of any other job had better not be registered with an employment agency, and had better not have ever made an application when already employed. It's hypocrisy, pure and simple.

And what the hell does that have to do with his ability to do the job? He's not married, and anything he does or doesn't do, the only person he has to explain anything to is Nancy.

And as for the News of the Screws "sting", I reckon just about any person, talking informally in such an environment would have been indiscreet. Can you imagine what it'd be like if your comments at whatever industry party you went to suddenly appeared in the media? I'll bet it would be a damn sight more rude about people than the things Eriksson said. To set him up like that is outrageous.

I agree, but thats not the way the red tops see it. He was/is in a position in which he should be aware of how these papers operate

But why should he? The problem is with the papers, not with him. And actually, if people in this country are honest, the problem is with us too, who go out and buy the bloody things as soon as there's a whiff of scandal.

Because it's been happening for years.

I know it has, but that's not the point. To take an extreme example, if someone keeps whacking you over the head every time you yawn, is the problem with you yawning or with the person whacking you over the head? Just because the papers have been doing it for years doesn't make it acceptable.

No, but you know enough about it to talk about it, don't you? And how is that? Because, like me, although you may not get the News of the World itself, all the other media leap on every salacious detail and discuss it to death. The Times, the Telegraph, the Guardian, the BBC,Sky they're all at it. It's part of our culture. And we're all guilty of it to a greater or lesser degree.

Nope, he shouldn't have done any of what he is supposed to have done. And he should have known better. But why?

Because the filthy tabloid press have made it their business to ensure that every last bit of dirt on ANYONE gets in their scummy pages. They have invented this idea that they have the right to "inform" the general public of anything that goes on in any "celebrity's" life. That they have the right to ruin anyone's career, life, marriage or situation. They have taken it on their shoulders to be our conscience. Fuck them! If I want them to blow someone's private life, I'll ask them. Until then, they should keep to real news and not go around screwing up other peoples lives, in the public eye or not.

Pardon my Manx, but these scum need shooting.

Typical tabloids like The Sun/The News of the World always set out to create bad news. Whereas papers such as The Times like reporting real news, these bozo's try to create alternative news to earn their 30p in the local corner shop.

They say no news is good news, and where the tabloids are involved I agree!! Big grin
