There have been times when on A.net we almost forgot about one of the most amazing creatures on earth, the Mammoth. Now is one of these times. Look at all the crappy politics / car / sports / Pe@rson / pee-in-a-beer-bottle threads littering a place that was once ruled by a creature that is as mysterious as it is clever.
Did you know that a grown-up Mammoth weighs 8 tons? That means if you put 7500 of them in a long row, each one touching the back of the other one with his or her trunk, they'd fit into the channel tunnel in a way that the first one would be standing in the rain in England, while the last one could raise his or her tail to fart into France.
A long long time ago, one day, apes turned into humans, and on the same day, Mammoths turned into elephants. Basically the same thing, only a) naked, b) grey. (gray in England). Humans, a) naked (later clothed), b) several colors (colours in England). Soon after, the Mammoth was forgotten. So I decided to start one final thread about the greatest mystery of all times, to make sure we'll always remember what we could have been, had we not evolved from the apes. Had we evolved from Mammoths, we'd all be elephants now.
Think about that!
Here's a Mammoth for you:

Peculiar postulation, however no denying these were magnificent animals, perhaps not necessarily destined to be extinct for all time. Japanese researchers are working on cloning cells from a frozen mammoth carcass to eventually create an embryo to transfer to the uterus of a female elephant. It's an extreme long shot, of course but given the frozen mammoth isn't very ancient, it may just be doable. Though I'm opposed to human cloning, except for medical stem cell research, I'm fine with bringing back an extinct animal, especially if it was humankind that wiped it out, in the first place.

Okay, this isn't really a serious thread, is it? Is there a message in that statement? Just for the record, I myself have nothing against the French.

Haven't I seen this before in a movie? Evil shall come over the world when you awake the Mammoth again! Beware!

Oh no, not at all! I love the French, and even more I love their food. It just happened that the row of 7500 Mammoths stood in the Channel Tunnel facing west... It might just as well have been the other way around, in fact, the probability is as high as 50%.

That must have been quite a day!
In reality, the second may be true (not in day of course) but if you know anything about the theory of evolution, the first is not...

Oh, sorry, the Adam and Eve thing. Forgot about that.

That isn't what I said. Even those who believe man evolved don't think the evolved from apes. The theory is that apes and men evolved from some common ancestor.

Before all else, I'm pro-mammoth. Mastadons too, for that matter.

They're cool too, but I wouldn't pay a lousy quarter to have one cloned to keep as a pet. A Mammoth, any time.

If they EVER come up with a site like that, I'll be the first one to sign up.
Think about it! A Mammoth photo section, a forum on Civil Mammoths, Mammoth Polls & Preferences, Mammoth Tech/Ops, Mammoth Hobby, Mammoth Photography, Mammoth Trip Reports, Military & Space Mammoths, Mammoth Related... and finally, Non-Mammoth.
"New Mammoth at Neanderthal!"
"Mam vs. Mas"
"When will mother nature retire their fleet of Mammoths in favor of Elephants"
"I'm sitting on a Mammoth right now!"
"The new Mammoth should be nicknamed *The A380*"
